Summer in the City

GRP IMG_3357

Summer is not only about shorts, tanks and bikinis. It’s also a great time to break out a cute summer dress or some spectacular prints and cool fabrics. The ladies of Fab Four Fashion took the plunge into summer fashion fun and are dressing up the way they do best!

I love wearing summer dresses when the mercury rises above that 25 degree mark. They are the perfect  piece to where to allow the warm summer breezes to help cool you down on a hot day, and give you some breathability.

LT IMG_3529

This African print dress is one of my favourites to pull on on a hot day. The cotton material allows me to stay cool, and the flared skirt gives me maximum movement. I love this style of dress as it gives me a beautiful silhouette and gives us women the freedom of wearing any style of undergarments we like. If you want to wear something to prevent the dreaded thigh chaffing, this is a perfect piece!

LT IMG_3525

Accessorising this look was a synch. You  have the option of dressing it up or down depending on your mood! I wanted to dress it up a bit so I went for bold jewelry and high heeled pumps. Yet another advantage of this dress and the beautiful print, one has the option of wearing many different styles and colour of shoes.

And with that, I’m going to hit a rooftop party with the crew!

I love maxi dresses, and this one from eShakti fits me to a “T”.  We’ve talked about how much we love this awesome retailer in the past as their clothing is completely customizable so you’re sure to find something in a size “you”!  No one has been left out at eShakti!GT Edited IMG_4074

For me, summer isn’t summer without an easy breezy maxi (see how I made that rhyme LOL).  I love the chevron pattern on this cotton dress and the fact that it has pockets!!!!!!  I added a simple black belt to highlight my waist.GT Edited IMG_4030

Summer is the time to bust out the lovely colors in your wardrobe, and to be more fashionably bold with your style, without having to wear a winter coat.  Let me talk to you about a cute summery look that can take me to brunch and transition well into an after work social networking event.

For one thing, I’m always attracted to bright colors, they tend to uplift my spirit and brighten up my days LOL. If you know me by now, you know that I love wearing outfits that can transition from day to night.  For this look I went for bright and light with a touch of pop art.

JS IMG_4189

I wore this nice fitted yellow skirt that I got on sale a few weeks ago thru Eloquii.  Little confession though, in order to get the skirt fitted to my body, I had to get a size down. The skirt is the perfect, mid-length that comes in a scuba material which fits nicely.

I scored this yellow, pink, and blue printed top for $6 at old navy yay.  For that price I couldn’t leave it behind. The perfect summer coat for me is a cool jean jacket which can be thrown on over a summer dress, or rocked with a jumper and you are good to go. I was always on the lookout for the perfect jean jacket, and couldn’t find it until I went to Old Navy and found this one in a light blue denim. This jacket is the business! I love the light blue color and that it’s a bit stretchy so that I can actually wear a sweater underneath and not feel constricted.  Trust me, it’s the worst feeling being virtually trap in your clothes LOL.

JS IMG_4249

To add a dash of pop art to my outfit I wore my white frame sunglasses, a silver cubed necklace, my famous Kashmir clutch frame with the incomparable Grace Jones and a pair of blush pumps, and I’m ready to brighten your day while I take over the 6ix.

On any given day, you will catch me in jeans or in a jumpsuit; but every now and then, I like to break out a sweet and girly dress. This dress hits the mark on all accounts. In a not so distant past, you would never catch me wearing florals… Yet, just in the past couple of months, I’ve worn florals over, over and over again. Go figure!

ND IMG_3794

This dress is just adorable. It screams easy, breezy and beautiful. The material is lightweight and makes it the perfect piece on a hot summer day. The top part has suttle stiches which does wonders for our figure. It has a nice adjustable cross back along with a sweetheart neckline. To make this dress even more perfect, it has pockets!

ND IMG_3785

This is yet another piece that can be dressed up or down. I plan on wearing it with some cute lace up flats, but that’s not the route I took here! I decided to dress it up by wearing my dress with fushia pumps. I added a belt to define my waist and the right amount of bling around my neck.

When the weather warms up like this, it means one and only one thing: it’s time to get summertime fine! Lol Because I’m often quick to run to the store or online for a fly look, I challenged myself to get creative with existing pieces from my wardrobe.

ND Edited IMG_1124

Honestly, I know it’s really not that hard to pull pieces from your own wardrobe, but when your closet is in utter chaos (I can’t be alone on this one… am I? ?? Lol) it’s easy to forget some of the gorgeous pieces hidden in its depths.

Summer equals color, color, and more color. So when I rediscovered this Dedo Azu asymmetrical skirt, I knew that it would be at the center of my look.

ND Edited IMG_1222

I paired my dress with a sweetheart neckline top (which is actually a dress) that I wore here. Because I wanted the fullest full skirt ever, I added a tutu underneath. So I was basically wearing a dress with two skirts lol but it created just the right look that I was looking for and I didn’t drop a dime. YAY ME!

I finished off my look with a black cut out cuff for a dash of edge, some dangly black earrings and mustard pumps because it just goes! With that, I’m ready for summer night awesomeness!

I love wearing pretty summer dresses when  the weather warms up and this one is one of my faves! I’m sure you won’t be surprised to know that it was the gorgeous colour and super cool African print that drew me to this dress. The colour is fun and vibrant, while the print has the shape and symmetry that just appeals to me!

LT Edited IMG_1027

While this is a halter dress, I opted to rock it with a leather moto style jacket to give the illusion that it is actually a skirt. Truth be told, I also did this because I did not have time to have it altered and it’s still a wee bit too big!LOL But this just goes to show what you can do when you think outside the box!

The midi length of this dress is perfect for the tall girl and the flared skirt gives me some added volume on my bottom half.

LT Edited IMG_0853

The accessorizing of this outfit was easy. I wore a studded black belt to highlight my waist, and a little sparkle at the ears in the form of dangly earrings. To turn the colour all the way up, I added these neon yellow stilettos; and with that, I was ready to enjoy a warm spring evening and night out with that special someone, or with great friends!

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but I would have to add sequins to the list too.  So, without question this skirt is the star of this outfit.  It hugs me in all the right places and when the light catches just right, its as though I’m shining bright like a diamond.

Dressing up and dressing well is something that I love doing oh so much.  For my dressy look I went for a subtle feminine, femme-fatale red dress. I was fortunate enough to find this gorgeous red dress that almost looks like a 2 piece set, in my favorite scuba material.  Red is a color that a lot of people shy away from, however you can never go wrong with the right shade of red. I found this dress on my favorite website, ASOS, and since the dress was well priced (you know I’m always looking for a great deal) I just had to have it!

JS Edited IMG_1395

What drew me to this dress is the illusion of it being a 2 piece set.  Also, I’m a sucker for a voluminous puffy skirt. Since the top of the dress is fitted and looks like a crop top, the bottom part being puffy creates an overall effect that I simply love!

JS Edited IMG_1543

Another great thing about this dress is that it is made out of a scuba material; it always does right by me.  I love the stretch that this material offers, but more importantly, I appreciate that the material holds me in at all the right places. A thicker scuba material carefully smooths out my blemishes which is always a plus.

To complete my feminine femme-fatale look I paired my dress with some leopard print pumps and a sparkly necklace, and voila, I’m ready to conquer.

It’s sad but true, it’s time to bid summer goodbye.  The ladies of Fab Four Fashion are putting away their short shorts, crop and tank tops and they’re saying hello to cool autmn breezes with a little hesitation.  But before they put all the summer clothes away they’re out for one last hoorah this Labour Day weekend!

You know how little kids sometimes hold on to their parent’s leg because they don’t want them to go? Well, that’s me holding on to summer’s imaginary leg!! LOL Seems like it was so short! Well, I’m not quite unpacking my fall fashion just yet because it’s not over till it’s over!

IMG_9003 Edited ND

This hot sunny day called for short shorts! Might as well enjoy them now, yes? The people with an eagle eye will recognize that this fabric hails from the mother land; more specifically Ghana.  So if you’ve been tracking with us for a little bit, you should know that very simple formula:

I decided to add to the fun by pairing my printed shorts with a printed top! This is actually a crop draped jacket that I’m wearing as a top. Of course it is, right? LOL I’m telling you, discovering ways to wear your clothes in different ways is always so much fun and kind to your wallet!

LOL  But before I don my turtlenecks and cords its one last hoorah for summer!

This black cropped tank top has served me well over the summer.  I found myself going to it a lot and that is because it is super comfortable and well….cropped.  As far as I’m concerned I don’t have any problems pulling if off…if you catch my drift LOL.

As for this skirt…I just died when I found it on the zulily.com website.  I just love the fact that this online sample site offers really great options for plus size women on a regular basis.  Anyhow, this animal print body con skirt had my name written all over so of course I had to snap it up quick!  I completed my look with a cute little black patent clutch, gold jewelry and by comfy yet stylish wedge sandals.  I’m off to enjoy a cocktail or three cause as Sheryl Crow sang, “I wanna soak up the sun, I wanna tell everyone to lighten up…”

This year it feels as though summer came and left so quickly.  This is our last time to flaunt our beautiful summer outfits, before transitioning to boots, scarfs and coats.  For my last summer look, I decided to wear this stunning skirt I found on eShakti a few months ago. Let me tell you I have been eyeing this skirt for months and even envisioned the different ways I would rock it!  This skirt has a beautiful mix of colors and the landscape print with gondola from Venice is just spectacular.  I really love the 2 pleat detail in front because it gives the skirt an A-line shape which I find flirty and feminine.

IMG_8150 Edited

As you already know from my previous polyvore posts (Flirting in a skirt and Mix and Match story) I love my skirts, especially the ones with patterns where I can remix them with different tops and accessories. For this outfit I was inspired by Creative Consultant and Fashion Market Director for Cosmopolitan Magazine the fabulous Shiona Turini. I often see her on her Instagram page posting pictures of her beautiful outfits and she seems to be a fan of crop tops and skirts.

IMG_8244 Edited

I paired my skirt with a simple white crop top, my blingy necklace and a pair of blush coloured pumps, just to keep the focus of my outfit on my skirt.  Another good thing about this skirt is that it’s from eShakti which caters to everybody type, therefore my tall, curvy and plus size sisters can all benefit!!

All White Done Right

GR-IMG_8467

Summer is here, and with it heralds the opportunity for many of us to attend all white, glamorous events such as the annual Diner en Blanc and all white boat cruises. So, when you have 4 women dipped in chocolate, bronzed in elegance, enamelled in grace and toasted with beauty, and these aforementioned ladies decide to dress in white, one can only expect greatness in the form of ALL WHITE DONE RIGHT!

GR IMG_8467

If you think you’re ready to see how the ladies of Fab Four Fashion did it, you are cordially invited to scroll down and enjoy!

Judy’s Look

J IMG_0182

Every summer it’s a struggle for me to find a stunning white outfit to attend any all-white event happening. I find myself asking, “Why do you keep doing this to yourself Judy?” The struggle is real LOL. However, one must admit, an all-white outfit done right is such a beautiful thing to behold.

Well this year, it happened once again. I was left caught out there with no white outfit to be found. I had ordered one, however sadly, it did not come in time for my all-white event and so I went into panic mode real quick! I didn’t know what to do because I did not have time to go running through the 6 in search of an all-white outfit. It’s definitely not easy to find that perfect white outfit when it’s last minute and Murphy and his pesky laws are working against you!

J IMG_0419

So, I pulled myself together, had a glass of wine (perhaps two) and went to Casa Del Judy (i.e. my own closet) to see what evasive action could be taken. I was shocked because, low and behold, this gorgeous over the top white dress was looking straight at me! This dress is a cross between Carrie Bradshaw and Alexis Carrington (for those who remember the epic 80’s show Dynasty). This one strap, form fitting all white bodycon dress with  huge black structured flower is stylish and sophisticated.  The combination of the white of the dress and the black flower gives a wicked edginess to this look.

j IMG_0527

Honestly ladies, I completely forgot I had this dress in my closet. I know I know “shame on me”. Well, I’ve learned when in doubt and stranded, I can always whip something out of my closet artillery and make it look brand new!

I paired this marvelous dress with my black stone lace sandals, my fave necklace and put on a bright reddish lipstick and I’m ready to sail away on my all white boat cruise.

Leslie’s Look

OMG friends, let me tell you about my struggle! When we decided to do an “All White Done Right” post, my mouth got dry, my right eye started to twitch and I thought I was going to break out in hives! If my reaction had been depicted in cartoon form, my hair would have been bone straight and all up in the air!lol I think white and its numerous shades (i.e. off-white, ecru, egg shell, cream, bone etc.) are truly lovely, but somehow, when I picture myself in an outfit, it is never all white. But, like we said before, this blog is all about us trying new things and stepping out of our comfort-zones. So after much trying on, many weeks perusing the net and scouring the stores I was finally able to put together an outfit that I am totally in LOVE with!

L IMG_9032

I strongly believe in spending money on pieces that will last me more than one season and that ideally can be worn many different ways. Moreover, I like pieces that I can wear for YEARS to come and I’m not joking. I still have pieces from well over 10 years ago that I rock as though they are brand new! This outfit hit the nail on the head on all counts. The  deep v-neck halter top is actually a bathing suit that I’ve been eyeing for a while. Admittedly, I originally wanted it in black, but was more than happy to purchase the white!:-) So now I’m going to talk to my ladies out there like me, that have a very small chest! When my mom saw me in this look she immediately said it’s too low cut and revealing (ah Mommy :-), then her second comment was “and just stuff the chest area to give you a little more bust”. Ladies, God gave us what we got and we need to celebrate it! The only person I would be trying to please by stuffing my bra would be someone other than me and that doesn’t make sense in my most humble opinion. But bottom-line ladies, make sure you do what makes you feel comfortable. My girls are tiny and each one is very special to me! LOL

L IMG_9056

To counteract the sexiness of the top part of my outfit, I chose to rock this fun tutu skirt that gives the look a bit of a girly, whimsical feel. Should you find the top portion a bit too daring for your taste, you can always through on a cute leather jacket or cropped blazer over it.

L IMG_9160

The finishing touches to my look were a bold necklace and some cuff bangles and these stunning sunglasses by a designer whose name you should be quite familiar with by now, Dedo Azu!! Yes, she makes sunglasses too along with her custom clothing designs (how amazing is that?!) So, Judy girl, I’m ready for that all white boat cruise or Dinner en Blanc cause I’m feeling quite flawless in this look! One might even go so far as to say I look “dipped in chocolate, bronzed in elegance, enamelled in grace and toasted with beauty”!;-)

 Nancy’s Look

Ok, right off the bat, I have to tell you – the QUEEN of all white everything is Ms Judy! She always has an all white party to attend… And when I say always, I mean A-L-W-A-Y-S lol. As much as I’m not a fan of dictated outfits (it’s the rebel in me LOL) this time, I was willing to join in for the fun of it.

N IMG_9955

The funny thing is that I have way more all white outfits than I originally thought so it was actually easy to dig in my closet and work something out. I actually love the contrast of my melanin infused skin against white (insert article of clothing)… including some shoes!! LOL.

N IMG_9394

So, let me be real with you for a second… I had several outfits planned out in my head, but the morning of the event, I remembered I had this saucy little number that had only made one appearance waaaaaay back in 2011. And that, ladies and gents, was my second wedding dress LOL. When I saw this Vera Wang stunner online (the ruffled skirt, I’m pretty sure it was the ruffled skirt), I jumped and went to David’s Bridal in 2.5 (then explained to my now husband why this dress was a necessity…) LOL. And get this, they didn’t have the dress in ivory as I wanted, so I made the trip to the store that did… all the way in Buffalo, NY! That’s a 2 hour drive y’all. Is that dedication or is that dedication? LOL
N IMG_0130

I always wondered if I would wear it again… well here, I did. Being that it’s short and flirty, it doesn’t skew too matrimonial – in my opinion anyway – and figured that it was a nice over the top dress that needed to be rocked. I mean, why not! Yes it’s much and much is ok… most times LOL. I kept my accessories simple this time (and skipped the birdcage fascinator). The dress came with this belt, but my sisters from another mister (hey Myrsha and Kennie); along with my partners in crime aka bridesmaids (shout out to Eva and THE infamous Judy lol) blinged it out to give the belt a little umph. This is just a fun LWD that will always have a special place in my heart.

N IMG_9498

To my plus size perfect babes out there, I don’t even need to give you a substitute… This dress goes up to a size 26! Yay for stores that get it and that cater to ALL of us!

Gail’s Look

Ain’t nothing like an all white outfit.  Whether winter or summer you’ll catch me rocking an all white outfit at some point as evidenced here.  The difficulty that can crop up when trying to put a monochromatic look together is that the colours can sometimes be  a bit off….the whites are not always the “same whites” or the blacks aren’t the same if you know what I mean.

IMG_8637 Edited

That was the bind I found myself in when pulling this look together.  To get around this difficulty I looked for different materials or textures so that it doesn’t look like I was unsuccessful in my attempt to match whites that aren’t the same white.

G IMG_8697

When I came across this top I was immediately attracted to the rushing in the bust area.  I paired the top with a straight cotton mix skirt and added some frosting around my neck.  Now I’m off to sail away on that boat cruise Judy mentioned…or was it Diner en Blanc?

Dedo Azu Official Part 2

group_mg_8478

Did you see the absolute awesomeness that was the Dedo Azu Official post? How could we not ask for more! And lucky for us, Dedo felt so inspired that she couldn’t resist making us more outfits to showcase her talents. So without further ado, we’re back with more goodies to show you from our girl Dedo Azu! She out did herself with her mix of prints and structured pieces so feast your eyes on these beautiful creations.

It was love at first sight when I first laid eyes on this beautiful lavender print dress.  Not only is the print to die for but the midi length of the dress made me feel like royalty….”All Hail the Queen!” LOL

Judy’s Look

When I saw this gorgeous blue dress that Angela Simmons wore at a fashion show last year I immediately fell in love. I even went so far as to take a screen shot of the dress on my phone thinking that one day I might find a dress similar to hers or simply have it made. Well my wish came true! When designer Dedo Azu asked me what she might make for me, I immediately sent her the picture of the dress (by email and by text LMAO just to make sure that she got it).

j_mg_8879

Fast forward to a few months, when I laid eyes on this two piece wonder and tried it on I was impressed, it fit me to a “T” and I loved the print and colourful polka dot material. It’s very different from some of the usual African prints I have seem but it is still very elegant and sophisticated.

j_mg_8889

Instead of making it a dress as was the original design I sent her, she made a 2 piece which works perfectly for me. I just love how the peplum top fits my waist then flares out.

j_mg_9017

I kept it simple for this look since the print alone is a work of art! So I chose to pair it with my blush pumps, my favourite pearly necklace, and since the top has a very low cut neckline (as per my request LOL), I decided to wear a nice off white crop top from Addition Elle underneath. And voila, I’m ready to conquer the world.

So, why do I love this jumper? First and foremost, it has been made to measure so it fits my body perfectly! Since it was made for me, I also had a chance to choose the exact style I wanted. I love backless styles, so I chose to have my jumper designed to show-off a lot of skin in back.  This is one of the advantages of made to measure clothing and working with Dedo and her team to craft styles that you love and fit your body pefectly.

l_mg_8570

Given that this jumper is quite figure hugging, it beautifully shows off my small waist and highlights the curves that I have despite my slim frame. The print also helps to give me the illusion of being a bit more voluptuous (ok, I may be reaching with that adjective, but it just has a nice ring to it ;-).

l_mg_8612

This look has a great summer feel and since it is cotton, your body can still breathe on those sweltering summer days. To wrap up my look, I searched among all my children (that is shoes) for the perfect pair to compliment this look, and just had to go with these dazzling yellow babies. Accessories in check and make up flawless I’m ready to take on a dynasty!

Nancy’s Look

When I tell you that I want Dedo to become my personal designer, I mean it. She consistently comes up with the best and perfectly crafted styles. When I tried on my dress, I immediately started to dance. Ladies, you know you do this too! LOL You know the feeling when you slip on that perfect piece of clothing that seems to have been made just for you! It’s just the best.

n_mg_8777

Let me tell you what I love about this dress. Obviously, the print is just beautiful. Also, it is a very fitted dress. The material is sturdy yet comfortable. But the best part is that the dress is sewn in such a way that there is room for the derriere! That’s huge (pun totally intended LOL). Since the material doesn’t have much stretch, my booty would end up being squashed… but not here!! I can freely be bootylicious!

So when we think of Africa, yeah, we’ll admit it, some of us do think of open top Land Rovers traversing the Serengeti in hopes of spotting a pride of lions or herd of elephants seeking shade under an acacia tree. However, most importantly, as one of the richest continents in the world, Africa is not only known as the motherland and the birth place of all humankind of even greater significance, at least to these Fab Four fashionistas, it boasts some of the most GORGEOUS and inspired prints in the world! That’s why Fab Four Fashion took it all the way back to where it all began and decided to feature cool creations courtesy of Ghana’s own Dedo Azu. Dedo proves that “if you build it, they will come”, as she has built several businesses and we, and now you, will be clamouring to get your hands on these precious printed pieces!

I have mentioned my mysterious friend Dedo in this post and this post and this one, oh and this one too! Am I a fan or am I a fan? LOL Many have asked how they could get their hands on her beautiful creations, but we couldn’t quite reveal it just yet. Well the secret is out of the bag: meet the ever so talented Dedo Azu!

Nancy African Print 3

On top of being a super sweet individual, she has a great eye for fashion. She spots the most beautiful fabrics and comes up with the best designs; like this fabulous skirt. I must admit that I’m not always a fan of high low skirts… but THIS ONE!??! It took my breath away as soon as I laid eyes on it.

Nancy African Print 1

The craftsmanship is impeccable. The skirt is fully lined, therefore it’s not flimsy. The pleating adds interest; and the length is perfect; and it cinches my waist perfectly; and the print is awesome. I just love this skirt, can you tell?? LOL

N_mg_7896

This skirt pairs well with a myriad of solid colors because of the amazing print, but I chose to walk on the wild side and partake in a little print mixing. It just makes for a little more fun! I finished off with simple accessories and my new favorite sandals!

Gail’s Look

A photograph of Solange Knowles wearing a sexy sleeveless mini dress in a contemporary African print design is what first drew me to the world of beautiful African prints.

GT African Print 4

I must admit that I had not considered the design possibilities of African prints as I thought they were solely for traditional garments worn only for special occasions (please forgive my naiveté).

GT African Print 1 Edited

When our dear friend, Dedo Azu, offered us the opportunity to have something made specifically to suit our sizes and shapes I jumped at the chance.

I sent off my measurements via email to Dedo along with dress styles I was interested in. This dress is a beautiful fit and flare style with hidden zip front, hitting me just above my knee.

GT African Print 2

The fabric is reminiscent of what is traditionally used in making dashikis.  What’s more is that the dress has pockets too!

Since the print of the dress has a retro vibe I paired it with my Mom’s vintage leather hobo purse and wore vintage style sandals to complete the look.

Judy’s Look

Judy African Print 1

When our girl Dedo left Toronto to build her business, we didn’t know what to expect. Knowing her as we did, we all knew that she was going to create something well worth waiting for. Fast forward a few years and she’s come back to visit us in Toronto with her beautiful clothing creations. By simply taking our measurements, she made the ladies of Fab Four Fashion some gorgeous pieces. By employing stunning African fabrics in her creations, she elevates the simplest silhouette to the next level of cool. Each creation represents a piece of art carefully crafted by the artist, so hers is a name you need to remember: Dedo Azu!

Judy African Print half body

Well imagine my surprise when I first clapped eyes on this jumper.  First, I jumped up and down because I loved the colours and the print: and second I jumped up and down again because it’s a JUMPER! This jumper is the perfect “Judy Killer-Combo” because as you probably know by now, I have a love affair with jumpers, and the colours in this piece; the shade of yellow, cream and blue blend perfectly with my complexion.

Judy African Print 3

I love the shoulder details and the v neckline at the back.  This is such a feel good summer jumper! I can dress it down with a simple flat sandal to go gallivanting around the city or dress it up with high heels for an evening out.

To finish off my look, since the jumper was a show stopper, I simply paired it with a simple gold bracelet and brown high heeled sandals.

One of the many advantages of having clothes custom made to your body, is that the bust and hip area fit perfectly. I have enough room to move freely and breathe deeply. This piece is a great addition to my jumper collection and I couldn’t wait to showcase it to the world.

Leslie’s Look

I’ve said it before and Im gona say it again: I LOVE PRINTS! Big ones, small ones, straight ones, squiggly ones, I love’m all! I have been waiting with bated breath for Dedo to come to Toronto and show us some of her gorgeous creations, and finally, designs in tow, she’s here and we’re here and together, we’re making the magic happen!

LT African Print 1

Let us commence by discussing these beautiful pants! OMG, high waisted, wide leg and printed? I feel like God has opened the pearly gates cause I’m in heaven in these pants! Fit perfect, length perfect, print perfect…I do feel like raising my hands in the air and singing the opening of the Lion King! Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba!!!!! (I just couldn’t resist:-)

LT African Print Lower body

What I love about African prints, is when they are combined with North American styles and silhouettes and these pants hit the mark on all fronts. Paired here with a simple white shirt, this look is the perfect blend of both worlds. And now for the best part….you ready?….We supplied her with our measurements and she made it for our bodies! “Bespoke” my beating heart! What is more, if we chose to, we could also choose the fabric and print we wanted as well! There is truly no end to her greatness!

LT African Print half body

Bold earrings, nude shoes and a vibrant yellow purse cap off my look, keeping it down town chic and oh so sweet! Dedo Azu, you are the answer to many a woman’s prayers! Thank you for supplying beautiful clothing that fit ALL women! Just for the record, she makes menswear as well, so I should really be saying thank you for creating clothing that can fit everybody!

Night at the Museum

IMG_8110 Edited

I would like to tell you a little story. It’s all about a girl that once upon a time – yes, you read correctly, I said once upon a time, found herself travelling on the subway and looking at the world around her with a new set of eyes. This girl, let’s call her LT, like so many city dwellers, used public transit to travel to and from work, sadly lamenting her plight all the way and complaining about the delays due to signal issues, or passenger assistance problems or the length of her commute. Until one day, she happened across a beautiful station named Museum and her world was forever changed.

IMG_7709 Edited

When she emerged from the train car it magically acquired a new look with a handsome prince and her standard work uniform-like outfit was magically transformed into a super cute sweater and striped skirt combo! Oh my! And upon her feet were a pair of ruby, I mean blue shoe-booties!

IMG_8241 Edited

This proverbial land of Oz was seemingly full of lions and tigers and bears, but she was no cowardly lion!…

Whirk!!!  Stop the track! So, perhaps there were no real lions, and no handsome princes in my subway adventures, but Museum subway station is a sight to be seen and provided a great backdrop for this fun look.

IMG_7748 Edited

This time of year is a SUPERB time to stock up on summer clothes because of all the great summer sales out there! My head is reeling from all the deals I’ve seen and believe me when I say I dove into the action head first! I’ve been watching this sweater and skirt at Zara since they first appeared in the stores and, while I liked them, I was just not ready to pay the price. A girls gotta save for a rainy day, even when trying to put her best fashion foot forward!;-) But, lucky me I was able to wait it out and score them both for an incredible deal!

IMG_8073 Edited

I love this sweater because of the beautiful colour which is quickly becoming one of my favourite, and the deep v at the back that shows off a little skin. I, like Nancy, love a top with an exposed back when I can get it! Furthermore, this sweater will transition nicely into my late summer/early fall wardrobe perfectly!

IMG_8110 Edited

This skirt was my ode to Ralph Lauren. I don’t often get down with the preppy look, though I do like it, but there was just something about this skirt that drew me in!  AND, I can wear it with a ton of stuff already in my wardrobe. This is a key factor for me along with many other women out there because we need to remix our outfits as much as possible. This way we have the ability to create new looks with the “old” pieces we already have.

IMG_8354 Edited

Now, let us discuss these shoes!!! I have to raise a glass to my big sis Gail who discovered these shoes for me! YAY G! These peep toe booties keep this outfit looking funky and the clutch adds an extra za-za-zoo that I just die for!!!

IMG_8494 Edited

All in all,  for a girl that was not always loving her time spent on public transit, I have to say that I have a new found appreciation for what one may happen across when one decides to leave the car at home and ride the TTC!

Simply Basquiat

Group Ago Edited IMG_4598 Remix

Forget the call of the wild! The inescapable call of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) was too alluring to the ladies of Fab Four Fashion this week. We were awed by the thought provoking, expressive work of painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. His large scale pieces held us enthralled, as did the beautiful lines and winding contours of the architecture of the gallery.  I mean really, who could ask for a better backdrop for our looks this week than the AGO!

Group Ago Edited IMG_4742 Remix

Leslie’s Look

I was inspired by menswear lines like Comme des Garcons or Klaxon Howl when putting my look together. As I find myself continually explaining to my sister Gail (yup, the same fine full figured femme fetal whom you know and love from this very blog), I’ve got to get dressed based on my mood.

L - B IMG_5128 Ago Edited

The Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition at the AGO put me in the mood to play with layering print and experimenting with more masculine lines.

L - IMG_5145 Ago Edited

For this outfit I wanted a loose, relaxed look and feel that seems to often go hand-in-hand with men’s wear. I could be wrong, but no matter what they’re wearing unless it’s a tux, guys usually look comfortable.

L - IMG_5175 Ago Edited

This look was all about the layering. I decided to go with pieces that were all in the same colour family which is atypical for me. A crisp white shirt and taupe pants formed the base of this look and I proceeded to layer on a leopard print top (which is actually a dress), a brown leather jacket and a check print car coat.  My t-strap shoes, which I consider my modern-day version of spats, paired with subtly printed socks rounded out the look adding a certain retro feel!

Nancy’s Look

One of the many words that come to my mind when I think of Basquiat’s work is funky. As such, I decided to up the “funk factor” of my outfit just a smidge.

AGO N0

I was immediately drawn to this furry sleeve sweater number which I scored at Zara. As my fellow long legged (and arms!) ladies know, when I tried the sweater on, I was certain that the sleeves would be too short and wondered if it would still look nice with the sleeves scrunched up. Well to my surprise, the sleeve length worked! Which lead to a happy dance and a quick dash to the cash.

AGO N1B

Speaking of appropriate length, let’s talk about these trouser jeans from Alloy Apparel! Again, Alloy Apparel understands that our bodies come in all shapes and sizes: these jeans go from size 1 to 25 and 30″ inseam to 39″! To err on the side of caution (or was it just because it was available), I ordered the 39″ inseam. For the very first time in my life, I had jeans that were too long! And yes, that warranted a little dance as well 🙂

AGO N3

I decided to keep my outfit in fifty shades of blue! Ok, there are only about five shades… I finished my look with my favorite cobalt blue pumps and shoulder bag in a similar shade.

Gail’s Look

I have a bit of a handbag obsession….ok, it’s a big obsession.  Basically what I’m saying is that my outfit was centered around this fringed creation.

G - B IMG_4585

After the handbag came this white faux leather moto style jacket.  I love the road warrior feel I get when I wear it.

This charcoal gray dress is the epitomy of comfort and the twisted knot detail hides a multitude of “sins”.  The dress is also form fitting for a dash of sexiness.  The necklace I chose mirrors the fringe found on my purse and completes the look.

For my Basquiat look I was inspired by the Jenny from the Block video but with a Brooklyn touch because that’s who I’m reppin but I digress.

I wore a pair of olive green pants with a cool pleat detail at the cuff.  I paired the pants with a simple white tank top, faux leather sleeve and tweed biker jacket.
