2016 Spring and Summer Trends

The flowers are blossoming, the sun is shining brighter each day and we couldn’t wait to jump into the season in style!  The ladies of Fab Four Fashion decided to give you a little taste of some of the hot spring and summer trends that will be a prerequisite for keeping it cool this season!

Gail’s Look

Thank goodness the warm weather has finally arrived!  It’s finally time to store away the winter coats and boots and pull out the colourful clothing.

I’ve purchased this royal blue skirt with net detail on the Eloquii site some time ago.  The netting detail is to die for and was seen on all of the runways.  From Proenza Schuler, Alexander Wang to Cushnie et Ochs netted clothing pieces are the thing for Spring.

I paired my royal blue skirt with a seafoam blue netted top from Old Navy. I love the play of colours and it puts me right in the spring-time mood!  The netted skirt is a midi length on me and the waistband has an elasticized waist so its super-duper comfortable.  I completed my look by adding these striped pumps and this fun colourful necklace.

Trends. They come and go. While some are adamant about never following trends, I think they can be fun to partake in. While I wouldn’t break the bank for any trendy pieces, I like to incorporate them into my wardrobe every now and then.

The cold shoulder trend is all the rage right now, and I’m loving it. It was seen all over the runways from Proenza Schouler to Derek Lam. This is a subtle (and sexy!) way to show some skin this summer. Since my cold shoulder top is a crop top, I decided to pair it with high wasted pants. This way, my middle section isn’t Aaalllll out. Just a peak of skin just how I like it.

I know that the post is supposed to be about the top but these pants, my tall sisters, are the truth. I’ve written about them before, but I still love them so very much! Fit on point, great color and, of course, the length is perfect! ZARA continues to impress me as I’ve spotted some pants with a 39″ inseam!!! These work perfectly for my long long gams. This is proof positive that we can’t always discount “regular” stores. And while the struggle is indeed quite real, sometimes, it’s worth just giving it a try.

I was channeling my inner Carmen Jones baby! And while I didn’t have flowers in my hair, I decided to have them on my feet! Lol. With that and a red lip, I’m ready to take on the summer!

Judy’s Look

I couldn’t wait to put my winter jacket and boots away and transition into a lighter, more colorful wardrobe.  Since I’m always craving color, when I happened upon this colorful cape blazer I knew I had to have it. The search for this cape blazer actually started a few months ago when I first saw it on the Simplybe US and Simplybe UK websites. The only hiccup is that these 2 sites don’t ship to Canada. Well, since my middle name is “fighter” cause I never give up without a fight lol, when my American cousin said he was coming to visit us in Canada the light bulb went off in my head and I ask my good ol cuz to get it for me. Side note the blazer had gone down in price by 75% so I was even more eager to get it.

When I finally got the blazer I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror, I loved it so much. The mix of colours in the stripes are a perfect combination.   This blazer is a big statement and a great addition to my spring and summer wardrobe.  The stripe pattern of my blazer reminds me of some of the pieces seen in Christian Siriano and Clover Canyon’s Spring and summer 2016 collections.

The blazer is by a company named Lavish Alice, and I must say, they make great pieces. I actually discovered them through ASOS, so now I will definitely be checking them out on a regular basis!

To keep the focus on my blazer I wore a simple black tank top, my black high-waisted pants and topped it all off with my blush pumps and I am ready for the warmer weather.

Leslie’s Look

Spring is one of my most favourite times of the year. It’s like the build-up to the climax in a great movie; the delicious appetizer before the main course, or the beginning cords to that track you love to sing along to or dance to in the club– you catch my drift;-)

With spring comes some new trends, some timeless ones and sometimes those that are just making a revival! The spring trend I’m just loving right now is the low slung wide leg trouser. This trend calls to everything that is just me: low waist line, uber relaxed fit and looking effortlessly pulled together yet just a little boho!

Putting this look together was super simple. I started with a colour palette that I just love any time of year (i.e. grey), and slid into these wide leg trousers. The low slung look works so well for me since, more often than not, my trousers are a little big in the waist. This look means one less trip to the tailor!lol

I then added a simple tank top and this oversized coat to complete the look. Then I moved on to accessories!!! I wanted to elevate this look with some bling, so I added this gorgeous necklace, kept the earrings simple, and added a large cuff. You can easily add a great colourful handbag to this look to give it some extra pop (and that is how you will see me when I rock this look in the streets of the 6ix:-)

And with that, I was ready to head out for drinks with the crew!

The Fab Four

Totally Trenched Out

Trench coats are all the rage this season. Oversized, colourful, I’m here for all of it. Now, you already know that I’m all about clothes that can be worn in multiple ways and for a variety of occasions. While shopping with my cousin (shout out to Eva!), I fell for a trench coat and was convinced that I could wear it as a dress. Despite the fact that,  both she and the salesperson looked at me as if I had lost my mind, I decided that I would give it a shot. Anyway, take a peek at how it turned out, and you decide!

Trench By Day

Given the temperamental weather we’ve been having, we should all have a fierce coat handy. I found this beauty at none other than H&M. This collarless trench coat comes in navy and beige.

I kept this look more casual by pairing my jacket with distressed jeans and a light top. The jeans were a DIY project (shout out to all the DIYers sharing their knowledge on YouTube!). My jeans actually ripped at the knee (after a tumble… don’t ask lol) so I figured that I might as well continue the destruction!

If you’ve been visiting this space for a little bit (shout out to you for checking us out!! :)), then you already know that I’m all about pops of color. That’s precisely what I did by finishing off my outfit with purple fringe sandals and teal clutch. If you’re not about the high heels life, these silver flats work just as well!

My plus size friends can recreate this look with the following trench, jeans and cami!

Trench By Night

I have to admit that when I bought this coat, I was primarily interested in wearing it as a dress. My obsession with transforming this jacket into a dress came to life after I fell in love with a trench dress from Max Mara.

Now, if you plan on recreating this BEWARE! I added a skinny belt but also have a safety pin securing the jacket from the inside. I love how the wind picks up the draping but if the “dress” is not secured properly, you may end up offering a free show to the world! I know it was cute when Marilyn did it, but you might end up in jail for indecent exposure!! LOL For a more permanent solution, you can have snap buttons installed.

IMG_9792Since I wanted the dress to be center stage, I accessorized with silver bib necklace, earrings and bangles, along with my favorite strappy sandals.

Dress: H&M // Shoes: Smash Shoes // Clutch: Aldo // Necklace: Forever 21 (old); similar here and here // Earrings: The Bay (old); similar here and here

Anyone else willing to rock a jacket as a dress or am I alone on this?

Happy Hump Day friends!

Get Your Sexy On

Feature Image Size Sexy

Get Your Sexy On or Size Sexy were the two catch phrases at the fashion show the ladies of Fab Four Fashion attended last Sunday.  The event featured beautiful fashion looks designed by Annika Reid, talented singers Trish and Kim Davis and thought provoking spoken poetry by Dwayne Morgan.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Karen Ward of Curvy Canadian and owner of the fabulous plus size boutique Your Big Sister’s Closet.

We also hob knobbed with Thera Warren of Cloud 14+.  Thera slayed in her gorgeous asymmetrical top and body hugging leggings.  Oh that those feathered sandals…just beyond FAB!

We were super excited to attend the Size Sexy Get Your Sexy on fashion event.  The fashions were beautiful and sassy and we were thrilled to show up and support Annika Reid, designer of Minimaximidi.

Judy’s look

When my girls told me about going to the Size Sexy Get Your Sexy On, to support Annika Reid‘s latest collection I knew I had to bring it in style.  I dressed as if I was about to rip the Size Sexy runway myself! LOL. My outfit for the event was a colorful patterned bodycon dress with some beige and black strappy sandals. To top up my look of course I wore a bright pink lipstick.

Gail’s look

I went for a casual yet sexy look.  I wore a plus size black & white off the shoulder bardot top and paired it with my red midi plus size skirt.  I just adore this skirt as it has pockets and the skirt itself has flirty sexy feeling.  Also this skirt, from Eshakti, can be customized so tall ladies out there you can get this skirt too!

“To Stiletto, or Not to Stiletto: That is the Question”

LT feature

LT Intro

Now ladies, haven’t we all been in the situation where we go out to a cool, trendy venue, in our drop-dead gorgeous killer heels and less than half way through the event you find yourself thinking: “what kind of stupid event is this that doesn’t have any place to sit” and “when can we go so I can get these ridiculous shoes off my poor, aching feet”?! Well ladies, I know I’ve been there and while I adore my stilettos – the higher the better, I love my feet too and sometimes I need to give them a break and switch it up a little. That being said, be they stiletto or be they flat, they must always be fly!  Here are some fabulous flats that will look hawt, Hawt, HAWT with that little black dress or amp up those sexy jeans!

Manolo Blahnik Hangisi Satin Flats

You ladies probably all recall the beautiful Manolo’s Carrie Bradshaw wore in the first Sex and the City movie. Well sistas, they made them in a FLAT! These flats are absolutely stunning and come in a range of gorgeous colours! Dress or jeans, you just can’t go wrong with these bad boys!  And they go up to a size 12!

Manolo Flat

Valentino Rockstud Leather Point-toe Flats

These gorgeous flats are one of my “lust” items. I think that they can bring an edgier look to the simplest of outfits. They can easily transition from working the boardroom to twerking in the club –not that I know anything about that, and they won’t leave you feeling “flat” (pardon the pun)! These are also available in sizes to 12.

Tory Burch Bedford Flat

All I can say is I simply love these shoes! They come in three different colours (black, cobalt blue & cinder) and the heel features a gold plate detail with a small T insignia. Daytime, nighttime, anytime, they will keep you high-stepping and looking good doing it!

Cross-strap Flat from Zara

Zara boasts a fantastic selection of shoes and I admit, I have a section of my closet dedicated to all things Zara! These darling flats are the epitome of versatility, with a nude color that can easily cap off any ensemble. The cross-strap detail at the toe adds just the right amount of visual interest to keep these flats from being too simple and the patent finish gives them a touch of elegance.  And the pièce de résistance; at just $49.90, they’re not just easy on the eyes; they’re easy on the wallet too!

Sole Society – Chandler Flat

Ladies, ladies, ladies! These leopard print flats from Sole Society are quite honestly, one of the shoes of my whole entire life! They combine my secret, or not so secret, love of leopard print, a t-strap which I adore and have that sexy point-toe design…..Oh ladies, I’m feeling light headed! Boardrooms, classrooms, cocktails, clubs whatever you’re doing in your life, you need to be doing it in these oh-so-fine, soon-to-be-mine shoes!

So ladies, next time you’re putting that killer outfit together, reach for those sexy flats. You’ll look fierce, feel fabulous, and your feet will not be the reason you leave the event early!
