My favorite season is finally here and I can’t wait to bust out some of my cutest summery outfits. I tend to dress up most of the time for every occasion, ask anybody who knows me.  There are times where I just like to throw on a cute little summer dress and go on about my business.

JS Edited IMG_3038

One of my favorite outfits to wear during the summer are maxi dresses, they are easy to put on and can be very fashionable at the same time.  My latest find comes from H&M. I found this lovely maxi dress that has a great mix of blues, greens and whites in a cool pattern. The dress is stretchy, super comfortable and also is a great length. I’m not a big fan of maxi dresses that end above my ankles LOL.

There are also gold studs on the collar of the dress, which makes it even more of a stand-out winner. I like that it is elegant, and that the silhouette is very sliming.  Also, to prevent my thighs from rubbing together on a hot summer day, and to smooth out my lovely lady lumps, I wear shapewear underneath my dress which I purchased at The Bay.

JS Edited IMG_3024

I can’t say enough about how essential maxi dresses are to my summer wardrobe. I wear them to do my errands during the weekend, a little brunch with my girls, and I’m good to go. I put on my lipstick, shades, and my flat sandals and watch me slay all summer. Last but not least I’m happy to report that this dress is very generous in size, I got a large and it fits me perfectly. The dress is very long so I’m pretty sure my tall sisters can also enjoy this dress as well.

The best part of summer is all those BBQs and patio hang outs and day parties and all the other fun things that we get to do! And for all these we want to make sure that we look fly.

By now, you know that in my playbook, fly = open back. I know, I know, I’m like a broken record, but I like what I like!  I paired my top with some really cute and comfy shorts. The print is adorable and the fabric is super lightweight. Be prepared to see these on me… a LOT lol.

Whoot-whoot!!!! Summer is here and I could  not wait  to jump into my hot weather gear! When the temperature soars into the 30’s, I need to keep cool, and show off a little skin at the same time!

LT Edited IMG_2472

I happened across this little romper in H&M while running some very important errands one day (i.e. keeping up on what was in the shops:) If you know me, you know it was the fabu print that first caught my eye, and the style was just up my alley! Being a slim girl, I love rocking prints as they give the illusion of added volume. I also love to show off a little leg, to accentuate my height and show off those gams.

LT Edited IMG_2460

My mom used to always say that just about any colour combination goes in summer, and mama, I have to agree with you. I complimented the green and white print of my romper by rocking this funky blue and white necklace and a yellow skinny belt. I went for a neutral high heeled sandal to round out my look, and of course, when the sun rays are beaming, I always break out my trusty shades.

So let’s hit the terrace and bring on the Sangria because it’s a sunshiney day!!!

5 A 7

Grp Edited IMG_7080

Some people call it ‘happy hour’, we Montrealers call it ‘5 a 7’.  Bottom line, it’s the same thing, we just use different terms. Like the legendary Michael Jackson said “So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf and just enjoy yourself “. That is exactly what the ladies of Fab Four Fashion plan on doing after work with their killer day outfits that transition right into night.  So, without further ad0 sit back, relax, grab a drink and enjoy the post.

If you see me skipping around during a day at the office, then chances are that I will be getting together with my girls at the end of the day. LOL. That’s when we endulge in some yummy appies and delicious cocktails.
ND Edited IMG_8221

Thankfully, my work environment isn’t too conservative, so my day to night transition is rather simple. For example, during the day, I would rock my faux leather pleated skirt and button up with a blazer. As soon as the clock strikes five, I ditch the blazer and jazz up my look.ND Edited IMG_8195

One thing I miss most about my hometown of Montreal is the Thursday evening 5 a 7 a.k.a. happy-hour to those of you not from Montreal.  It was a time to get together with my friends and head out to the latest hot spot “watering-hole” and chat, sip on some cocktails and maybe do a little two-step if the vibe was right.

Final LT Edited IMG_7488

Since these 5 a 7 always happened after work, we always had to pull out our cutest looks that meshed work and play. My look was all about colour and comfort. This dress rom H&M has that fantastic retro 70’s feel that I love so much, and is just perfect for both a day at the office and an evening on the town.LT Edited IMG_7175

I elected not to fasten the top most button of the dress so I could wear this gold cami underneath to add another layer to the look. Since I can easily get lost in loose fitting pieces, I added a belt to the look to highlight my waist and add more visual interest.LT Edited IMG_7196

To round out my look, I slipped my feet into these beautiful cream and black shoes from Aldo. I actually first caught sight of these babies on the Canadian daytime TV show “The Social” being worn by one of the hosts Melissa Grelo.  I just died when I saw them and I ran out to pick up a pair!

What I like to wear for a 5 a 7, is a nice dress that can transition well from the boardroom to a resto lounge after work. I tend to choose dresses that are comfortable and that don’t require too much work to make the leap into my after work adventures other than putting on a pair of pumps and freshening up my makeup.
JS Edited IMG_7723

I personally think that every woman should have these types of dresses in their wardrobe, because it is so cost effective when you consider that you can build 2 or 3 looks with one piece.  You can wear this dress as I did with a fashionable necklace, or layer it with a fitted blazer.
JS Edited IMG_7624

For this look I went for a fitted knee length grey dress, which works well with flats or heels and keeps you looking professional and cute. Our early spring weather has arrived, so I wore black stockings with my mini booties to keep away the chill in the air. Finally to seal the deal on my look I wore my leather and tweed jacket and my leather gloves.

And voila, I’m ready for a cocktail!

There’s nothing like getting together with friends after a hard day’s work.   As a former Montrealer, the Thursday 5 a 7 aka Happy Hour was the ideal day of the week and time frame to celebrate the fast approaching weekend while not being out too long since there is still one more day of work to knock out lol.

It’s ideal to have those pieces in your wardrobe that transition easily from day to night.  I just love having “double duty” clothing options in my closet.gt IMG_7832

gt IMG_7919

I  love this gray knee length dress.  It offers long sleeves for extra warmth if your office tends to be on the cold side.  It also works with a variety of jackets.  Here I chose to wear a houndstooth patterned coat but once in the office I could easily throw on a black tailored jacket and I’d be good to go.
gt IMG_7823

Once the work day is done, I’d ditch the jacket and would transition to wearing a little something sparkly at my neck.  This statement necklace does the trick beautifully.   With that, I’m ready for a well-earned glass of wine!GT Edited IMG_7960

Take my breath away…who remembers that way back track huh?  This song was the inspiration for my laid back relaxed look – Top Gun baby!  Picture it, I’m strutting confidently across the tarmac as fog rolls in with me wearing a gorgeous smokey gray leather jacket with wool collar trim!  I’ve got my aviators at the ready as I board my fighter jet!  Ok so I won’t be hopping onto any fighter jet but you catch my drift.  LOL

gt IMG_1497

The jump off for this look was the jacket.  This jacket is THE JACKET OF MY WHOLE LIFE!  I found it while perusing Beyond the Rack, an online sample sale site, and had to have it.  It was tucked away in the “My Curvy Closet” section of the site.  Once again, I really like how online sample sale sites are providing PERMANENT plus size clothing selections to better serve their diverse customer base.  See fashion industry it’s not hard!

gt IMG_1408

I love the fact that this jacket is cropped as it hits me right at the top of the hip so that my God given “ass-ets” aren’t hidden. LOL

gt IMG_1480

Speaking of assets, these denim jeans are the truth!  Once again, Old Navy came through for me.  Almost all of my jeans are from this store.  Now, I know finding the perfect fitting pair of jeans can be pure hell – trust I know the struggle is real but oh so worth it.

These jeans are jeggings with some distressing detail.  The final touches are the aviators, of course, my wedge boots and a clutch to hold all my necessities.

I love the all black everything sexy, classy, chic look and I went for it. I occasionally struggle to find what I’m going to wear in fall.  I’ll turn my closet upside down trying to come up with something. To be honest I’m still trying to adjust to the change in temperature…I’m just not ready for the fall season. Lol

ju IMG_1303

With this look I went with the theory of less is more. This timeless look is perfect for fall and gave me that confidence without having to do too much. Investing in classic pieces is so essential especially on those days when you don’t know what to wear.

ju IMG_1245

For this look I went for a femme fatale look. I paired my pencil faux leather skirt with a simple fitted black turtle neck with a pair of black pumps and my ¾ tweed vest. To add a little excitement to my look I added a full earring cuff and my pink candy yum yum lipstick for the perfect pout.

Nancy’s Look

Tis the season for layering. Fall is so unpredictable, so having multiple layers is the best way to conquer the day. For this week’s edition of our lookbook, I was inspired by the boys! This is yet another trend of this season, but does it really ever go away though? As far as I’m concerned, menswear inspired looks are always in.

nd IMG_1772

Blazers are a fall must have. They go well with most things and, most importantly, it’s a stylish way to keep the chills at bay! I love this blazer because of its structure. I’ve had it for many years and it still looks fresh and current. I paired my blazer with this fun polka dot fitted boyfriend shirt. I can predict that this item will also have many wears!

nd IMG_1870

And finally, the star of this outfit is these booties! I found them at the Gap and did a little dance! I saw them at the store in a size 10. For an unknown reason, I decided to try them on. They didn’t fit, but surprisingly, they weren’t crazy tight! So I ordered them online in the size 11 (because of course they don’t actually carry the larger sizes in store… The Gap, please show us big footed babe some love by stocking our size in store please?!? *end rant* LOL). They are soooo comfortable, the color is awesome and I absolutely love them.

nd IMG_1717

One of the recurring comments found in the reviews section is that these boots make the feet look big. While that may be true, I came to terms with this sometime ago. Old Nancy would have returned the boots based on this alone. New Nancy says: Yes! I am tall and I have bigger feet! They allow me to go about my business and help support my statuesque frame, so I am not going to bash them! So I say, screw it, go on with your big feet! So whether it be stilettoes, kitty heels (they’ve been getting a beating lately… LOL), or shoes that make your feet look big, wear what makes YOU comfortable and happy! *gets off soap box* LOL

What fall/winter season would truly be a fall/winter season without a little fur, or faux fur, to add warmth, texture and panache to a look! It can be the perfect opening volley for any outfit you plan to rock this fall. Then, add a foundation of black leather and some knock’em dead booties and ladies, ding-ding-ding, we have a winner!

lt IMG_1096

The catwalks were filled with fur and leather during last spring’s fall/winter fashion week shows and these decadent pieces were a feast for the eyes that I gorged on unrepentantly! And though I had a fun filled summer, I cannot say that I regret having to dress for the cooler temperatures when I get to slip into these sexy pieces.

lt IMG_1135

The foundation of this look is this leather long-sleeved shirt that I purchased many moons ago but continues to stand the test of time. The sleeves were originally more bell shaped, but I had my trusty tailor give them a little nip and tuck. I wanted to pull a little Tracee Ellis Ross action by doing leather top to bottom recalling the gorgeous leather jumpsuit she sported for the Billboard Music Awards, so I paired the leather shirt with these faux leather pants that hug my curves in all the right places.

lt 1150

Since I did not want this look to fade to black, I knew I just had to fall into the fur. This faux fur vest adds  another layer of texture and visual interest that helps to break up all the black. I added this skinny tan belt to help define my waist and my version of “Kinky Boots” that are the embodiment of   all things hot to me (ya, I guess you can say I kinda like ‘em;-)LOL

The accessories were simple: gold rectangular shaped earrings and this quilted shoulder bag and I’m armed and ready to meet cooler temperatures!

It’s sad but true, it’s time to bid summer goodbye.  The ladies of Fab Four Fashion are putting away their short shorts, crop and tank tops and they’re saying hello to cool autmn breezes with a little hesitation.  But before they put all the summer clothes away they’re out for one last hoorah this Labour Day weekend!

You know how little kids sometimes hold on to their parent’s leg because they don’t want them to go? Well, that’s me holding on to summer’s imaginary leg!! LOL Seems like it was so short! Well, I’m not quite unpacking my fall fashion just yet because it’s not over till it’s over!

This hot sunny day called for short shorts! Might as well enjoy them now, yes? The people with an eagle eye will recognize that this fabric hails from the mother land; more specifically Ghana.  So if you’ve been tracking with us for a little bit, you should know that very simple formula:

This year it feels as though summer came and left so quickly.  This is our last time to flaunt our beautiful summer outfits, before transitioning to boots, scarfs and coats.  For my last summer look, I decided to wear this stunning skirt I found on eShakti a few months ago. Let me tell you I have been eyeing this skirt for months and even envisioned the different ways I would rock it!  This skirt has a beautiful mix of colors and the landscape print with gondola from Venice is just spectacular.  I really love the 2 pleat detail in front because it gives the skirt an A-line shape which I find flirty and feminine.

IMG_8150 Edited

As you already know from my previous polyvore posts (Flirting in a skirt and Mix and Match story) I love my skirts, especially the ones with patterns where I can remix them with different tops and accessories. For this outfit I was inspired by Creative Consultant and Fashion Market Director for Cosmopolitan Magazine the fabulous Shiona Turini. I often see her on her Instagram page posting pictures of her beautiful outfits and she seems to be a fan of crop tops and skirts.

IMG_8244 Edited

I paired my skirt with a simple white crop top, my blingy necklace and a pair of blush coloured pumps, just to keep the focus of my outfit on my skirt.  Another good thing about this skirt is that it’s from eShakti which caters to everybody type, therefore my tall, curvy and plus size sisters can all benefit!!

It finally feels like summertime in the “six” and what goes perfectly hand-in-hand with summertime? You guessed it, BBQs! Judy’s Look

When I think of summer BBQs the first thing that comes to mind is DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince song: Summer Time, Summer, Summer Time…Time to sit back and unwind! I remember the huge BBQ scene in that video LOL  Aww good times!

All this to say that one of my favorite summer activities is to attend a nice hot summer BBQ. The perfect summer BBQ attire for me consists of anything that makes you feel comfortable and is light weight keeping you cool.

shoot june 27 Eaton Center

For my BBQ look, I opted for something simple and cute but more importantly I wore an outfit that I felt comfortable in. I chose a pair of cutoff jeans, a simple white tank top and this nice printed kimono that I found on sale at Zara a few weeks ago. I just love these cutoff jean shorts. They’re the perfect length for me and they give me appropriate coverage. I also like that they’re a little distressed.

shoot june 27 Eaton Center

This printed kimono is everything! I have so many outfits in mind that I can create with it, and scoring it at a discounted price for me was a big HELL YES! I also love that it has pockets.

shoot june 27 Eaton Center

Just to back track for a moment, I saw this kimono about 2 months ago at Zara for $99.  I was heartbroken because I love the print but was not prepared to pay that price. So, when I checked their website and saw that they had it on sale for only $39 I quickly scooped that puppy up and made it mine!  I must admit I was a bit concerned about the size particularly in the bust area because it was only available in sizes S and M, but I was pleasantly surprised that the medium fit like a dream.

To finish off my look I wore 2 large cuff bracelets from Forever 21 and my beige cage sandals.

Summer would not be summer without one quintessential trifecta: glorious sunshine, heavenly heat and the sizzle of something on the barbeque! Nothing beats the smell of hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill, or some juicy barbeque chicken and ribs or even some pork-chops and salmon.  I could go on and on, but since I’m  supposed to be discussing my look and not my lunch, let’s talk about what I like to wear to a good ol summertime barbeque!

shoot june 27 Eaton Center

Ahhh, nothing feels better than slipping into a pair of comfortable jeans and a crisp white tee! For my look I chose to rock my favourite pair of boyfriend jeans. I love the relaxed look and feel of a boyfriend jean and that they allow me to keep up with my little friends (i.e. cousins under 6 years old) at those family barbeques!

I love a graphic tee and this awesome t-shirt from Cotton Candy Playground is just “boss”! The cotton material of the tee is nice and thick and the fit is bang on which is always a concern for me. Add to that, my girl on the tee has a fro like me, I just couldn’t resist the lure of such a super cute tee!

To pull my look together I threw on a gray blazer,  funky silver oxfords and some dangly silver earrings.  I wanted to keep my look cool and simple, just like me! So now I’m ready to have a barbequed dog a cool bottle of Stella and in this look I’ll be ready to be the perfect horsey for the little ones.

Getting dressed for a BBQ is as much fun as attending it…. Ok, I lie, eating is the best part – always the best part… lol When getting dressed for a BBQ, I always opt for an outfit that is casual and cute.  I also try to wear an outfit that allows for expansion in the abdomen area, if you catch my drift. LOL

Fab Four Fashion

In this case, I went for my trusty denim shorts. These high wasted, belted shorts offer an interesting twist on the classic denim shorts. Any time I get to flash the gams is a good time!

Fab Four Fashion

I paired my shorts with a scooped neck and deep scoop back bodysuit. I don’t think that I need to mention the fact that I love everything open back anymore… lol. I like to pair short shorts with tops that offer some more coverage.

When wearing a simple outfit, I like to play around with accessories. Therefore, I accessorized my look with these super cute earrings which my dear cousin Judy scored for me at the Politics of Black Hair event she attended some time ago. These were made by the very talented Toni Daley.  She has a ton of super cool earrings. The ones I was rocking fit perfectly because I do love my puff! I rounded out my look with wooden bangles and brown strappy sandals.

Gail’s Look

Oh the summer BBQ/Cook out who can resist them?  It’s a chance to get together with family and friends and catch up while enjoying ribs, burgers, hot dogs and of course potato salad.

Like Judy, any time I think of BBQs, strains of “Summer Time” by Will Smith drift through my mind.  With all that in mind, my outfit centered on two things, style and comfort.

The “style” part of this look takes the form of this cotton & elastane black and cream bodycon dress.  The cotton offers great breathability for those hot summer days and the stretch offers  added comfort. I love this dress because it accentuates my curves beautifully if I do say so myself!

As I’ve mentioned before, I try not to subscribe to ideas of what full figured women are “supposed” to avoid so, of course you know I won’t be shying away from horizontal stripes.

I paired this dress with a faded cropped denim vest, pearl earrings and necklace.  A black and silvered studded cross body purse is great for keeping my hands free to enjoy all the BBQ goodies.

The “comfort” portion of this outfit are these black and silver flats.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the way my legs look in heels but my time in them is VERY LIMITED – right Leslie, Nancy and Judy?LOL  So, flats are usually the way to go for me.  🙂

Even More eShakti Day and Night looks

Eshakti polyvore feature image

It’s Friday so its another edition of Fab Four Faves!  This week, we’re doing something slightly different. To close our eShakti takeover week, each lady will show you how they would style an article of clothing from eShakti.com!

Nancy’s Inspiration Board

1. Skirt: eShakti

2. Stiped shirt: J. Crew

3. Hoop earrings: Michael Kors

4. Cuff: Malene Birger

5. Pumps: Gianvito Rossi

6. Cami: Topshop

7. Necklace: BCBG

8. Bangles: Chamak by Priya Kakkar

9. Strappy sandals: Stuart Wiseman

My daytime look was 100% inspired by this Stella Jean look which I simply LOVE! I love how the pinstriped shirt marries with the printed skirt. Until I can get my Stella Jean coins in order, I figured that the landscape art print A-line skirt by eShakti was the perfect way to recreate a budget friendly look!

For a night on the town look, I turned the saucy levels WAY up. Because the length and fit of this skirt is so demure, I figured that I could afford to have a sexier top while still keeping the look classy. And what says sexy more than a sweet pair of strappy heels?

I totally see myself rocking this skirt with a crop top, a tee in a million different ways… so much so that I might need to use that discount code sooner than later…. LOL Stay tuned.

As we’ve mentioned before we love the when our clothing can do double duty and with that in mind I created this day to evening look using a lovely chambray dress from eShakti.

GT Eshakti polyvore

For my day look I went all business.  I paired this chambray dress with a white button down shirt worn underneath the dress.  To tote all my important papers I of course had to add a gorgeous black leather tote…the perfect touch of quiet sophistication lol.

Night time is the right time to turn it up a little bit.  I swapped out the button down shirt for a hot butterscotch leather jacket, sexy leopard print heels and some bling bling around my neck.

1. Dress: eShakti.com

2. White Shirt: Talbots

3. Purse: Givenchy

4. Pearl Earrings: Top Shop

6. Leather Jacket: Wilson’s Leather

Judy’s Inspiration Look

For my eShakti Day and night looks, I used a cute cream colour strapless dress from eShakti.

Judy Eshakti Polyvore

For the day look, I paired the dress with a flat camel coloured sandal and a Chloe bag. I would wear this dress for brunch with my FabFourFashion ladies to discuss our next venture.

For my night look I simply paired the dress with a cream leather vest to give my outfit an element of  sexiness.  I added a beaded clutch which looks like a beautiful piece of jewelry and strappy red and cream high heel sandals. The bow on the sandals adds a feminine touch to round out the look.

Of course a lady such as myself likes to leave a pleasant scent after she exits a room.

Hope this gives you some ideas on how to style this dress.

Leslie’s Inspiration Look

If you’ve been following our blog or other fashion outlets you know that the 70’s are back in full swing. This pretty little number is one I’ve been eyeing at eShakti. It gives me that 70’s feel that I am loving so much right now. Here’s how I would work this dress to bring the 70’s “back to the future” for day and night time play (ya, I know that’s an 80’s reference, but I just couldn’t resist throwing it in!).

World MasterCard Fashion Week: Day 4

World MasterCard Fashion Week Day 4 LT

Toronto Fashion Week keeps rolling and we are thoroughly enjoying the Fall 2015 collections.  Day 4 began with designer, Stacey Bafi-Yeboa, debuting her fall line.   Stacey believes that comfort and glam should go hand in hand.  Her line named Kania, marries those two ideas beautifully.  The collection features long wrap style cardigans fabricated in the highest quality cotton and lycra.

Hilary MacMillan’s women’s wear line featured clean lines that speak to a modern woman’s style sensibility.

Lolé had models grace the run way in their beautifully styled active wear while Farley Chatto’s line featured fur, fur and more fur.  His pieces tailored were accentuated with punches of saturated jewel tones reminiscent of Dr. Zhivago.

Soia & Kyo’s men and women’s outwear collection did not disappoint.  Models sashayed down the runway in beautifully crafted coats and jackets in muted colours like camel, blush and gray.

The Rudsak collection closed out day 4.  This well established design firm based in my hometown of Montreal sent models down the catwalk in gorgeously leather goods.

For my “Fab Four Runway Remix”, I found myself most  deeply struck by the beautiful, feminine lines of Hilary MacMillan’s Studio collection and equally inspired by the rich luxuriously crafted creations from Farley Chatto’s Runway collection, and the marriage of the two yielded this decadent look!

World MasterCard Fashion Week Day 4 LT

To give that feeling of decadence, I went with a predominantly white colour pallet with a splash of colour thrown in here and there.

I started with a simple long-sleeve turtleneck dress inspired by the femininity of Hilary MacMillan’s collection.  I went with a mid-calf length dress to give the look a bit of a retro fell that Hilary is known for and added this luxurious white belted fur vest.  Not only does the belt help to break up the look a bit, it also accentuates by waist thereby adding more curves to my otherwise slim silhouette.  This gorgeous printed clutch by Proenza Schouler is the perfect accent to this look, complimenting both the colour pallet and adding a touch of whimsy.  The Michael Kors shoes, well, what can I say, they are simply perfect!  They add that bit of edginess that I like without feeling like they’re competing with the rest of the look.  Add in some jewelry in the form of a medium sized necklace and simple ring and the look is complete!  For me, this 1940’s film noire starlet outfit is the epitome of understated decadence.  In this look any woman would be ready for their close up.

What was your favourite look on the run way on Day 4?

~Leslie
