Sister Talk

Grp Edited IMG_9960

The ladies of Fab Four Fashion recently had the wonderful opportunity of appearing on Karlyn Percil‘s television program, SisterTalk airing on Afro Global TV.  Karlyn, a former financial industry executive, is an author, speaker, and leadership coach, who appeared on Oprah’s Life Class. She has made it her mission to help women realize their self-worth and reach their dreams!

When Karlyn reached out to us, we jumped at the chance to appear on her show so we could discuss our passion for fashion and our deep commitment to furthering the body positivity and body diversity movement!

Gail’s Look

I was truly honoured to appear on Karlyn Percil’s SisterTalk tv program along with the other ladies of Fab Four Fashion.  It was a wonderful opportunity to discuss with Karlyn, and her viewing audience, two topics that is near and dear to our hearts – body positivity and of course fashion.

One of the chief reasons the ladies and I were so eager to start our blog, one that focused on 4 different body types, was so that we could champion the idea that ALL BODIES ARE GOOD BODIES no matter the size, shape or colour.  Also, we wanted to help women who have bodies that are not “off the rack” find stylish clothing that speaks to who they are.

With that, let’s get to my SisterTalk debut outfit.  Every women should own a simple crisp white button-down shirt.  It can be dressed up or down and really is the work horse in a woman’s wardrobe.

I rolled up the sleeves to make it look a little less stuffy.  Next came this awesome sequined skirt from Eloquii.  By now, you all should know that I’m IN LOVE WITH SEQUINS and that my go to online retailer of choice is Eloquii. They just always get it right.GT Edited IMG_9513

To continue the sparkle, I added a little bling at the neckline with this statement necklace.  The final touch were these simple silver wedges.  With that my friends, my outfit is complete.GT Edited IMG_9887

When you get invited by the gorgeous tv host Karlyn Percil to appear on her show, SisterTalk, to discuss body positivity, body diversity and of course fashion, you have to come ready to slay.

I departed from my usual signature look, to try on a fitted dress with a touch of flare –both literally and figuratively!  I chose this dress because it describes a few traits of my personality, which is fun, feminine, and fancy.   This dress is cute and satiny and would be perfect for a cocktail wedding, tea party, and definitely appropriate for our first tv interview.

JS Edited IMG_8733

I scored this dress a few months ago at Forever 21 in the plus size section. I was a bit shocked to find it since it’s not the usual style I see at this store.  Nevertheless I was quite excited when I happened upon it, and at an affordable price too. I’m not usually a big fan of floral print, but the big pink and silver flowers printed on top of the dark blue dress, is a match made in heaven.
JS Edited IMG_8890

To polish off my look, I opted to keep it simple by wearing a mix of pearls and a beaded necklace.  The pearl earrings which I received for my birthday a few years ago, is something I truly cherish. To accentuate my waist line I wore a tiny gold belt and my blush pumps.  Please note: these pumps were one of the best shoe investments I’ve ever made LOL.

A first time tv interview can be nerve wrecking, but the right attitude, a killer outfit and your confidence level on 10, will make this experience a positive one and leave an everlasting first impression.

We are very passionate about everything body diversity, therefore, we could not pass up the opportunity to have a great discussion with Karlyn on Sister Talk.

I never pass up the opportunity to discuss the difficulties that I have encountered growing up tall and how I surmounted them in hopes of encouraging and helping out a fellow tall sister. Our gracious host was great about navigating topics from online shopping, to social media and everything in between.

ND Edited IMG_8943

Since I was going to discuss body positivity, I had to wear a garment from a brand that understands longer limbs! A staple in every tall girl’s shopping arsenal is, without a doubt, Long Tall Sally.  This place is my go-to when I need a great fitting pair of pants that cover every single one of my inches. And once again, they saved the day!

These printed palazzo pants are stylish, breezy and comfortable, all while looking extra chic. They fit nicely as a high waist, however, I found that, when higher waisted, the length of the pants would be better suited for flats. Since I wanted to wear heels, I opted to go a size up where it fits nicely at my true waist. These pants will take you from lights, camera, action to a nice stroll in the park in 2.5 seconds flat! Just swap out the top and shoes and you’re good to go!

ND Edited IMG_9139Wanting to make my pants the center of attention, I decided to wear a clean white crop top. To further elevate my look, I added a healthy dose of accessories with a bib necklace, cuff earring and more silver bracelets. My pop of color came via my lippie and yellow pumps.

Once again, I am sincerely grateful to Afro Global TV and Sister Talk for having us and for being so welcoming. Wishing all much continued success!

It’s our Sister Talk debut! We were so excited to share our message of body positivity with the viewers of Sister Talk. And of course for this TV appearance, I wanted to rock a hot look that expressed my personality! My outfit was all about colour and texture.

LT Edited IMG_9792

You may recall the top I’m wearing from our “Prints, Stripes and Neon” post here. You know I love versatility in my wardrobe and this top gets double duty as a vest and a top when tucked in just so. I wanted a piece that would pop on camera and give my skin a nice sun-kissed glow!

LT Edited IMG_9623

I wanted to pair my look with another colour that compliments it so well. This blue textured skirt with its flared shape offers a great contrast to the colour of the top and adds just the right amount of visual interest to take this look up a notch.

To accessorize this look, I wanted to bring the bling! So I wore this beautiful sparkly necklace with simple earrings and a cool cuff to add some shine to my wrist. Now, you all know I love my high heels , so there’s no surprise that I pulled out some stiletto’s with a cool multi colour print that draws on some of the colours in my look.

So, as they say, lights, camera, action! I am ready for my close up baby!

The Fab Four

Fine Glass of Wine

gr 2347

“Would you like a glass of wine?” is never a question that needs to be asked. “Red or white?” is a better one! As fashion lovers, we do enjoy partaking in some of the finer things in life, and wine is surely one of them. A glass of wine or two when we get together to discuss our next business move always makes the time fly and adds just a little more fun!

GR 6807

The ladies of Fab Four Fashion took a little jaunt up to Niagara-on-the-Lake to enjoy some of Ontario’s finest and of course, just had to do it in style. So, grab a glass of wine, sit back, relax and enjoy our latest post!

Gail’s Look

Being able to tour a winery and learn all that goes into the wine making process, for me, makes enjoying a glass of wine all that more satisfying.  For our winery tour, the watch words for me were comfort & style.

GT-2991 edit complete

Comfort equaled loafers.  These black patent loafers were like walking on a bed of clouds and made managing the terrain on the winery that much easier to navigate.

GT 2916

GT 2955

My polka dot long shirt along with the striped skirt are both cotton and therefore breathable for those warm summer days.  For a pop of colour I added this lemon yellow chain link strap purse.

Leslie and I also wanted to highlight the fact that although we have very different body types my outfit translates perfectly to her frame and vice versa.  Don’t be afraid to try something a little outside of your comfortable.

Over the years my appreciation of wine has certainly increased. I really enjoy a glass of wine after a long day at work or while I’m watching my fav shows “Scandal”. I’m partial to a glass of chilled white, and since I am a foodie and love to try new and exciting recipes, I’m always looking for a great new bottle of white wine to pair with a meal. You can catch me in the kitchen pouring wine while I’m cooking (a la Julia Child). I find that wine just gives a recipe a little extra kick and makes it perfect. Ok I digress, but I just can’t help talking about my other passion GOOD FOOD LOL.

JS 2606

For our winery outing I opted for something cute and simple because walking thru the vineyards and wine tasting always seems to be that much more enjoyable when you’re comfortable. I wore my flowy checkered black and white skirt and a soft orange sleeveless turtleneck to add a pop of color.

JS 2647

To accessorize my look, I went with gold cuffs and a thin leather gold belt, because I just love gold and orange together, I find they marry well. I left-off my usual stilettos for this one and put on my favorite comfy camel color chunky heeled strappy sandals.

I grabbed my purse, put on some lipstick, took a second look in the mirror and baby that girl was looking fine like a glass of wine! LMAO

Picture it, warm balmy weather, wide open spaces, a terrace with cozy seating and a picturesque back drop….this is the image that springs to mind when I think of going to a winery and of course, we cannot leave out the best part, sampling the selection of wines on offer!

LT 3406

My look for a romp at a winery mirrors my tastes when it comes to wine: sweet , cool, and crisp. I want to feel relaxed and comfortable as I go ambling through the sellers of some of Ontario’s Finest vineyards. As you can no doubt tell, this girl, who is usually all about her bright bold colours, decided to switch it up by going with a black and white palette for my look. The oversized men’s shirt is the perfect piece to allow me the freedom of movement to really knock those glasses of wine back!LOL  It’s comfortable and perfectly in keeping with the current trend towards women rocking menswear inspired pieces.

LT 3256

The geometric print tube skirt I chose to rock with my look hugs my every curve and is the perfect feminine contrast to the masculinity of the shirt. To this I then added some more fun print in the form of these check print flats from Kate Spade (thanks Kate), and this sexy black shoulder bag with a funky chain detail.

LT 3326

To give my look just a tini–wini  bit of colour I chose to wear this fun red wooden bangle. An oldie but a goodie. There are just some accessories in my wardrobe that I just can never part with, regardless of how long I’ve had them or how many times I’ve rocked them!

So, hears to your health and your own adventures in wine country! Cheers!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is always one of my favorite spots to visit. It’s a beautiful and quaint town, but more importantly, there’s an unlimited amount of amazing wines! Since it was a nice warm day and I was feeling particularly chippy, I decided to go for an explosion of color!

ND 7092

Since there was going to be a lot of walking around, I decided to wear a light weight tunic. Now, let me level with you for a second… This dress is on the short side! That’s what tends to happen when you’re shopping while tall at stores not dedicated to us. I loved the print so much that I decided to nab it anyway. I sometimes wear it as a top, but when I do wear it as a dress, I “protect my assets” by wearing shorts, you know, in case I drop something that I actually want to pick up! lol

ND 7219

I continued my color blast with a bright fuchsia purse and a yellow belt to cinch my waist.

ND 7280With that, I was ready to enjoy good food, good company and great wine. Cheers!!

Even More eShakti Day and Night looks

Eshakti polyvore feature image

It’s Friday so its another edition of Fab Four Faves!  This week, we’re doing something slightly different. To close our eShakti takeover week, each lady will show you how they would style an article of clothing from eShakti.com!

My daytime look was 100% inspired by this Stella Jean look which I simply LOVE! I love how the pinstriped shirt marries with the printed skirt. Until I can get my Stella Jean coins in order, I figured that the landscape art print A-line skirt by eShakti was the perfect way to recreate a budget friendly look!

For a night on the town look, I turned the saucy levels WAY up. Because the length and fit of this skirt is so demure, I figured that I could afford to have a sexier top while still keeping the look classy. And what says sexy more than a sweet pair of strappy heels?

I totally see myself rocking this skirt with a crop top, a tee in a million different ways… so much so that I might need to use that discount code sooner than later…. LOL Stay tuned.

Gail’s Inspiration Board

As we’ve mentioned before we love the when our clothing can do double duty and with that in mind I created this day to evening look using a lovely chambray dress from eShakti.

GT Eshakti polyvore

For my day look I went all business.  I paired this chambray dress with a white button down shirt worn underneath the dress.  To tote all my important papers I of course had to add a gorgeous black leather tote…the perfect touch of quiet sophistication lol.

Night time is the right time to turn it up a little bit.  I swapped out the button down shirt for a hot butterscotch leather jacket, sexy leopard print heels and some bling bling around my neck.

Judy’s Inspiration Look

For my eShakti Day and night looks, I used a cute cream colour strapless dress from eShakti.

Judy Eshakti Polyvore

For the day look, I paired the dress with a flat camel coloured sandal and a Chloe bag. I would wear this dress for brunch with my FabFourFashion ladies to discuss our next venture.

For my night look I simply paired the dress with a cream leather vest to give my outfit an element of  sexiness.  I added a beaded clutch which looks like a beautiful piece of jewelry and strappy red and cream high heel sandals. The bow on the sandals adds a feminine touch to round out the look.

Of course a lady such as myself likes to leave a pleasant scent after she exits a room.

Hope this gives you some ideas on how to style this dress.

If you’ve been following our blog or other fashion outlets you know that the 70’s are back in full swing. This pretty little number is one I’ve been eyeing at eShakti. It gives me that 70’s feel that I am loving so much right now. Here’s how I would work this dress to bring the 70’s “back to the future” for day and night time play (ya, I know that’s an 80’s reference, but I just couldn’t resist throwing it in!).
