All Summer 16!

GT reEdited IMG_2163

Summer Summer Summer time!  As the temperature rises it signals that its time to break some fashion rules!

Edited IMG_2341

With this outfit I’ve committed the 3 dreaded no-nos of plus size fashion:

1.No Horizontal Stripes

2. No Baring of Arms

3. No Crop tops

Well, as you’ll  soon see I said nuts to that and so I’m wearing what want!

I spied these bold HORIZONTAL striped shorts on the Eloquii site and had to have them (yes, let me say it again, I have the audacity to wear horizontal stripes…and whomever doesn’t like it can stay mad lol).  Undoubtedly, these shorts are the star of this outfit.  These shorts are uber comfortable, are made of a polyester – spandex mix, have a side zipper and have POCKETS!!!!!!GT reEdited IMG_2163

Edited IMG_2253

The shorts are generously cut giving my ample derriere lots of room but that poly- spandex mix I mentioned earlier means that these shorts hug my curves wonderfully!GT reEdited IMG_2320

I paired my cute shorts with this black tank top.  I love this top from bad ass retailer Rebdolls.  It’s cotton so its hella breathable and of course its cropped!Edited IMG_2205

To complete my look I added this faux leather jacket to add a little edginess to the look and  then donned black wedges that are also super comfy too.  Et voila, I’m all summer 16 ready!GT reEdited IMG_2306

Fashion Week 2016

GRP IMG_8927

Fashion week is here and once again the ladies of Fab Four Fashion are getting ready to strut their stuff at David Pecaut Square.  Picture it, 4 different beautiful women with 4 different unique styles, one can only imagine that fashion week 2016 would not be the same without Fab Four Fashion.  With that being said, we cordially invite you to feast your eyes on this elegant post that the Fab Four have cooked up for you!

What I love most about fashion week, other than attending the runway shows of course, is dressing up to express my creative vision. This year I went for sophisticated chic meets bold vibrant print. I wore this 50’s inspired green dress with a black elephant print. I scored this little number on sale on the eShakti website. The dress was half price plus they had an additional 40% off on top of that! As you already know from our previous post featuring eShakti, they specialize in customized pieces catering to every size and shape.JS IMG_9667

To add an extra layer of volume and edginess to my lovely dress I wore a black tutu underneath (stay tuned because I’ll be premiering this glorious black tutu in an upcoming post). The goal was to have the tutu peeking out beyond the hem to show off a bit of the black crinoline and make it seem like its part of the dress.

My outfit would not have been complete without a ¾ sleeve feather jacket to add a pinch of pizzazz and flare to my look.  To spice things up I wore my gold and black Ivanka trump pumps and a tiny gold belt to add more definition to my waist. Since my look is 50’s inspired, I added a sexy pair of long leather gloves ending at the elbow to further play on the retro theme.

JS IMG_9622

And finally, the piece that will make every head turn is this to die for clutch. Let me tell you about this breathtakingly beautiful piece of art which I discovered on Instagram.  It’s designed by Ka$hmir this lovely girl who decided to turn her creative juices to clutches, and several other pieces. I was so impressed with her work, I just had to order one of her clutches to show my support. All I can say is that I was impressed from the time I placed my ordered to the time I actually received my clutch. I will definitely be ordering more of her beautiful creations and besides, I am all about women supporting women.

JS IMG_9679

Let me go grab my clutch and voila, I’m ready to rip the runway in style!

Fashion week is always action packed but oh so much fun! I can’t wait to see the fashionable offerings of the other fashion lovers along with what our Canadian designers are cooking up for next fall/winter.

ND IMG_9160

Although Miranda Priestley might not approve, I decided to rock a floral shirt and pants combo. I loved the print and most importantly, it’s super comfortable! Almost like pyjamas (which would keep me on trend as seen on the Thakoon and Givenchy Spring 2016 runway! HA! lol).

ND IMG_9235

I also wanted to play on the colors and prints, so I paired my look with some of my sweetest sweet babies – ie my shoes from J. Crew. These fit like a glove and are so darn cute! I completed my look with some gold baubles.

Stay tuned for our action packed week on all our social media platforms!

Nothing is better than a good piece of leather, and these oh so sexy leather overalls I scooped up at H&M make my heart do an extra little pitter-pat! Fitted, funky and fresh is how I would describe this look and I will agree with my big sis (i.e. Gail’s) description of it having a ”Mad Max” vibe and I can dig it!

LT IMG_9780

Needless to say, the key piece in my look were these overalls. I paired them with an off-the-shoulder cashmere, loose fit sweater to give the look an effortlessness and my leopard print pumps to add a touch of print to this simple colour palette.

LT IMG_9834

So, with a quick spritz of my favourite perfume, and my fashion week pass in hand, I’m off to the shows to see what’s going to be hot for Fall/Winter 2016!

Ah another fashion week is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited to see what our talented Canadian designers have in store for us for Fall 2016.  Of course part of the fun and spectacle of fashion week is seeing the amazing streetstyle that will be on full display this week.  So, not to be out done here is my fashion week look.

GT IMG_9361

GT IMG_9563

I went for SPARKLE baby!  The star of this outfit are these sequin covered shorts.  When I spotted them in Forever 21 I just knew I had to have them!  These shorts are super comfortable and have just the right amount of stretch.

GT IMG_9408

Given that these shorts are “lead” in this outfit I kept the rest of my outfit rather quiet.  I donned a white cropped jacket and simple black tank top.  I brought the sparkle upwards with this long tassel necklace and some bling around my wrist.

GT IMG_9579

Last but not least is the handbag/clutch from Alexander Wang.  As the other ladies of Fab Four Fashion know, I’m  a handbag FANATIC!  What I love about this bag is the metal studs on the bottom giving that dash of edginess to my look.

With that, my fashion week look is complete!

Fall Look Book Part 1

September is here, and for most children this means back to school, suited and booted in new clothes for the first day of classes! The ladies of Fab Four Fashion feel much the same way as they’ve been diligently re-working their wardrobes for fall.  Join them as they show you what they are loving and wearing for autumn 2015!

Nancy’s Look

It’s so hard to say goodbye to summer days (if you’re like me, you sang these words to Boy’s II Men’s song… LOL).  While I will miss the gorgeous weather, I’m really looking forward to rocking everything fall fashion.  This season has the best colors and structured pieces – oh how I love structured pieces.

Blog IMG_7567 Edited Nancy

Designers have had us salivating over fall trends since their presentation of their autumn/winter 2015 clothing lines this past spring. While some of these “trends” are really classics, it’s always cool to see how they’re re-interpreted them for the current season. For me, that’s the case with brocade.  We saw it with designers like Mary Katrantzou, the queen of prints; Simone Rocha and Givenchy.

IMG_7752 Edited Nancy

I purchased these pants many moons ago and love wearing them around this time of the year. I just loved the print on these cropped pants (for the record, these were actually are cropped and not just too short by default #tallgirldisclaimer lol). Black and gold will forever have an elegant feel to me.

IMG_7616 Edited Nancy

I paired my brocade pants with a crisp white shirt and some black booties. Since we know that it gets a little bit breezy this time of year, I had to add my leather bomber jacket. I really love the whole marriage of colours in this outfit and I felt that the jacket spiced up the look a bit.  And just like that, the fast approaching cooler temperature is a little less daunting.

Falling into cooler climes is not my idea of a good time. I just can’t get excited about cool breezes that rob your breath, chilly walks to the office and the thought of not being able to enjoy a sip of sangria on a terrace under the blazing sun at 8PM. BUT, I can totally  get down with the fall fashions that we get to rock when the mercury falls!

I must admit that I’ve been excited about fall fashions since I saw some of the trends that were hot for the season during fashion week this past spring and here is one of the looks I could not wait to don this season.

IMG_6421 Edited LT

Tie-neck blouses or sweaters were not something that I would typically wear. I usually verre toward funky and this is a more conservative style for me. However, when paired with this leopard print dress, the funk factor is noticeably multiplied as is the retro “sexy secretary” feel.

IMG_6640 Edited LT

To highlight my small waist (and lend a little more curve to my slim silhouette), I added this slim patent-leather belt to this ensemble. I have a long torso, so I like to wear my belts a little higher than my waist-line to make my legs look even longer than they already are!

IMG_6410 Edited LT

Now, to keep with the retro feel this outfit gives off, I went with these gorgeous burgundy platform pumps reminiscent of YSL and oh-la-la Dominique Deveaux is now in the building and ready to create her “dynasty”!

Judy’s Look

Fall is almost here, it’s inevitable, we just can’t avoid it, so if you are anything like me and love looking fly all year long, you adjust and make the best of this colourful season. My first fall lookbook outfit is inspired by menswear. Oh yay! I love a nice tall man that can kill-it in the style category, and many menswear pieces can transition well into women’s fashion. I often see women wearing nice menswear inspired suits that are tailored to their curvier frames. One item that I particularly love in menswear is a tie, which is always the first thing I look for when I see a man wearing a suit.

IMG_5830 reEdited Judy

As a child, my dad always asked me to help him adjust his tie (aww, fond family memories). I also remember having a little red leather tie as a child LOL. So, I guess it’s no real surprise that for this look I decided to go for a “comme les garcons” type of style which is a departure from the very feminine and sexy looks I’m often drawn to. I wore a printed yellow, blue, black and white cardigan, with this fabulous white shirt that I found with a built-in tie. I must say I was relieved to find this shirt because it fit the vision I had for this look perfectly. Also let me be honest, for a second, I really didn’t see myself being able to tie a tie LOL.

IMG_5994 Edited Judy

I scored this shirt while browsing through Forever 21 in the plus size section. I love that it’s not tight across my chest and not too big in the mid section. Another thing I like is that the shirt does not gape in the front across my boobs and I feel very comfortable in it. Trust me when I say the struggle is real to find a proper white shirt that fits my body.

IMG_6044 Edited Judy

To complete my look I wore my leather-look shorts to give me a cool, edgy feel. I had a vision of wearing a necklace under my tie and having it look as though it’s also built into the shirt. I must say, I love how my vision came to life. It just takes my outfit to another level. The last piece is my wonderful black patent oxford shoes which I scored at Forever 21 a few months ago, and surprisingly they are extremely comfortable and they don’t make my feet look big, which is always a plus.

Gail’s Look

Ah, the fresh cool fall breezes will soon be upon us.  I’ve always felt that come September it was time to re-jig my clothing wardrobe – particularly my work clothes so as to incorporate new items so I can refresh my look.  For me the month of September will always feel like back to school even though I’ve been out of school for some time.  I fondly remember that my sister and I made our Mother a little nuts when we INSISTED that we had to have a fresh new outfit for the first day of school!! Ah our poor long suffering Mommy! LOL

Ever since Pantone dubbed Marsala (aka wine red if you ask me LOL) as the “it colour” for 2015 I’ve been seeing it every where and I admit that I jumped on the bandwagon too…it really is a gorgeous colour.

LB1 - G - IMG_6799

These twill skinny Marsala coloured pants are fabulous.  These pants have some stretch to them so they’re very comfortable.  The cut and fit are really amazing and they hug me in all the right places and there isn’t that horrible gaping at the waist which is the usual problem I have with pants.

IMG_7089 Edited GT

I paired these pants with a printed tie-neck blouse, another hot look this season.  I’ve had this blouse for forever and I reach for it often.  It always pays to have great wardrobe staples you can reach for season after season.

IMG_7056 Edited GT

That is also the case for this pink duster.  Again, I’ve had it forever and have featured it in another post seen here on the blog.

The temperature is rising and so are the hemlines!  The ladies of Fab Four Fashion could not wait to break out their summer best and the “best” includes shorts.  Watch as they don their favourite pairs of shorts and remix them to suit their unique styles and bodies.

When I laid eyes on this geo print crochet trimmed roper I thought to myself, “Maybe this is the time to revisit shorts.”  I haven’t worn shorts in about 10-15 years so as you can imagine that I was a little hesitant in donning a pair.

G - IMG_1424

One of the things that drew me to this romper was its boho feeling.  Songs like Magic Carpet Ride or California Dreaming swirled around in my head….it was totally far out man! LOL

G - IMG_1477

The only thing I would change with this romper is the sleeves.  On a really hot summer day long sleeves are the last thing I want.  Otherwise this romper is gnarly!

I love rocking my shorts and I believe that there is pair of shorts that can fit every body. For myself I love rocking shorts that are more flair and not too tight at the bottom. For this short look, I wore tropical patterned shorts which I got from ASOS last December on sale for $10. Can I get a Hell Yeah!  I love that they fit my curvy frame very well. The only thing I did to them is I had my tailor unroll the big border at the bottom to make them longer. I wanted my shorts to be appropriate and not “Batty Riders” LOL all my Caribbean queens outs there know what I’m talking about!

J - IMG_1649

To top my shorts look, I wore a light blue jeans shirt with my wooden yellow and green bracelets which I scored at H&M.  With my fedora hat and my lovey Straw Miss Sixty purse which I inherited from my Fab Four Partner Leslie yeah yeah, I’m ready for a nice roof top BBQ party!

When the heat of summer can be felt in the breeze and temperatures begin  to rise toward that magical point; 30 degrees Celsius, I can’t wait to jump into my short shorts (sorry mommy:-)!  I scooped these shorts up on sale at Zara earlier this year and  though I knew they would need some alterations when I bought them, knew equally that they would fit perfectly once tailored.  The problem I sometimes have with shorts is that they often stick out on either side at the hem.   As I am not well endowed in the hind quarters, I end up looking a bit triangular. So, I had my trusted tailor take in the side and hem a bit and voila, they fit like a dream!

L - IMG_2076

I also picked up the blouse from Zara (ya, I know, it’s obvious I can’t get enough of this store), and it too needed a bit of a nip and tuck. Since I simply ADORED the dramatic print, I figured with a little snip here and a bit of creativity I could make it work.

L - IMG_2196

I had my fabu tailor take the sleeves from not quite full length (these long arms of mine) to three-quarter length and chose to wear the blouse backwards. This was easily done, needing only a small fastening added to the original front of the blouse to refine the look.  I then paired the whole look with some Michael Kors snake-print platform sandals and my trusty shades and I’m ready for some Sangria on a terrace with friends or brunch with the girls!

It’s that time of the year ladies: get your waxing appointments because it’s time to show our toned gams! There’s no better way to do that then with our short shorts! Now, us tall ladies have to be careful with our short selections. While shorts are a great option for us since we have legs for days (bonus 123,232 to being tall!), short shorts can look scandalous real quick, especially if you’re like me and rock your shorts with heels.

N - IMG_1893

When I get my shorts from “regular” stores, I tend to go for shorts with a cuff, then I simply undo it to add a couple of inches. This allows me to have more control over how much leg I want to show.  The other alternative is the same as we already do with pants: if you fall in love with shorts that are just too short for your liking, look at the hemline to see if you can take it down. I got these black shorts from Zara a couple of seasons ago and I love them because they fit perfectly and are so versatile.

N - IMG_1965

I paired my shorts with this awesome printed kimono. Since my shorts were on the quite short side, I decided to balance it off with a top that offered more coverage. Lately, I’ve been a fan of wearing shorts with longer tops, like blazers, shirts or like here, with kimonos. I feel that it offers some sophistication to the look. With that said, as the mercury continues to rise, you will definitely see me with shorts and a camisole! But I promise that I will keep it classy… or I’ll try! lol

“How much do we love prints? Let us count the ways!”

We, the ladies of Fab Four Fashion, are suckers for a hot print, and we aren’t afraid to wear print-on-print-on-print either! We know for some, the idea of rocking a big bold print or pairing a fun printed top with a hot printed skirt or pant, can feel like a bit of a fashion risk, but hopefully we’ll give you some ideas to make it easy for you to embrace this look and make it work for your style and taste.

grp_MG_4063

Clothing lines like Emilio Pucci, Erdem and Clover Canyon and designers like Mary Katrantzou have created some stunning examples of how different prints can work so well together and they have been great inspirations for developing our “print palates”! Here are fun ways that you can begin to become print perfect with pizzazz!

  1. If you want to pair a printed top with a bottom with a different print pattern, it’s often easiest to look for prints with similar colors and combine a big bold print with a finer simpler print. Check out how Leslie works it!

  1. There is always the fail safe way to pair prints: pair polka-dots and stripes! Find a cute top, let’s say in a polka-dot and pair this with a skirt in a stripe print. Keep the top and bottom in the same colour scheme (e.g. black and white) and you have now joined the perfectly printed family!

  1. If you still feel this is too much for you, start by trying out a printed coordinates set with a more consistent all over pattern like the one Gail is working below: This will allow you to work the printed look without having to put different prints together. You also have the option of remixing each piece on its own to create a new look.
