Nancy’s Look

L.B.D. These are my favorite three letters. The little black dress is perfect for so many different events and situations. From the perfectly tailored dress for the boardroom to that perfect saucy number for date night, little black dresses always perfectly fit the bill!

Tall girls everywhere, this dress needs no introduction. This baby is from the amazing TTYA x long tall sally AW2015 collection. The entire collection is amazing, but this dress took my breath away as soon as I laid eyes on it!

The fit of this dress is aaaamazing! I went with a size smaller: I love how it sucks everything in and keeps the girls where they need to be! The neckline – a very deep V – reveals just the right amount of sexiness. If you need support for the girls, you will need a strapless U plunge bra similar to this one here. In addition, I don’t even need to mention the sheer sleeves that hit you where the sleeves need to hit!

I’m so thankful for all the ladies behind Taller Than Your Average and Long Tall Sally for hooking us up with fashionable pieces that fit our longer limbs! These pieces are elegant and most importantly expertly made. As Beyonce said, every woman needs a Freakum dress – clearly, I have found mine.

Leslie’s Look

Elegant, sophisticated, sexy, sultry, these are all apt descriptions of what an all black outfit can do for the wearer. Now, I’m not one who typically dresses in all black, but sometimes you just can’t beat a sexy black dress or a black on black on black outfit to say I’m sexy, I’m cool, effortlessly pulled together and incredibly chic.

IMG_4599 Edited Leslie AB

My all black look was all about combining textures and materials to create one funky outfit. The starting point was this funky sweater with its textured lace detail at the front. I was immediately drawn to this piece when I saw it knowing that it would be a great piece to add a bit of funk to an otherwise simple look.

IMG_4651 Edited Leslie AB

But why stop there? I wanted to continue adding different textured pieces together by pairing this midi-length faux leather skirt to the look. Not only does this skirt accentuate my God given height, but faux leather pieces are a huge trend right now that I’m happy to dive into so a double  bonus for me!

IMG_4509 Edited Leslie AB

Lastly, to  complete the look, I added these studded black pumps  (more texture), funky mismatched earrings and this leopard print envelope clutch. All black everything, I can definitely get down with this!

Ain’t nothing like an all black outfit my friends.  I mean come on black is beautiful as they say! I’m not going to lie, if it were up to me, I’d wear black all day, every day. LOL

IMG_4986 Edited GT AB

Its easy peasy because black goes with everything!  As my friends can confirm my uniform used to be (and sometimes I still do ssshhhh don’t tell anybody) black pants and a top.  I wore this “uniform” for work or a night out with the girls.

So for this look I went to my closet and pulled out this gorgeous top and paired it with a pencil skirt with flounce hem.  I love the “flirty-ness” of the skirt.  I feel like it adds a daintyness that counter acts the more edginess of the moto jacket.

I love the all black look, if well done, it can be very classy and chic. You will often catch me wearing an all-black outfit in the fall and winter time.

IMG_4782 Edited Judy AB

In order to achieve the perfect all black ensemble I often shop for good quality black pieces that I can remix together. This look is the perfect example. I remixed this lacy black top that I wore earlier this year in one of our first blog post called  (LBD four ways). For the “LBD” post, I wore said blouse with my black faux leather skirt that I wore in our  (Fall Look Book Part 3) post to create my look.

Sometimes going with the simplest outfit and remixing the pieces from your own wardrobe can be the best way to go, and your bank account will thank you!

To complete my look I wore my ear cuff earring and my Betsey Johnson snakeskin black and blue pumps.

Nancy’s Look

It’s so hard to say goodbye to summer days (if you’re like me, you sang these words to Boy’s II Men’s song… LOL).  While I will miss the gorgeous weather, I’m really looking forward to rocking everything fall fashion.  This season has the best colors and structured pieces – oh how I love structured pieces.

Blog IMG_7567 Edited Nancy

Designers have had us salivating over fall trends since their presentation of their autumn/winter 2015 clothing lines this past spring. While some of these “trends” are really classics, it’s always cool to see how they’re re-interpreted them for the current season. For me, that’s the case with brocade.  We saw it with designers like Mary Katrantzou, the queen of prints; Simone Rocha and Givenchy.

IMG_7752 Edited Nancy

I purchased these pants many moons ago and love wearing them around this time of the year. I just loved the print on these cropped pants (for the record, these were actually are cropped and not just too short by default #tallgirldisclaimer lol). Black and gold will forever have an elegant feel to me.

IMG_7616 Edited Nancy

I paired my brocade pants with a crisp white shirt and some black booties. Since we know that it gets a little bit breezy this time of year, I had to add my leather bomber jacket. I really love the whole marriage of colours in this outfit and I felt that the jacket spiced up the look a bit.  And just like that, the fast approaching cooler temperature is a little less daunting.

Leslie’s Look

Falling into cooler climes is not my idea of a good time. I just can’t get excited about cool breezes that rob your breath, chilly walks to the office and the thought of not being able to enjoy a sip of sangria on a terrace under the blazing sun at 8PM. BUT, I can totally  get down with the fall fashions that we get to rock when the mercury falls!

I must admit that I’ve been excited about fall fashions since I saw some of the trends that were hot for the season during fashion week this past spring and here is one of the looks I could not wait to don this season.

IMG_6421 Edited LT

Tie-neck blouses or sweaters were not something that I would typically wear. I usually verre toward funky and this is a more conservative style for me. However, when paired with this leopard print dress, the funk factor is noticeably multiplied as is the retro “sexy secretary” feel.

IMG_6640 Edited LT

To highlight my small waist (and lend a little more curve to my slim silhouette), I added this slim patent-leather belt to this ensemble. I have a long torso, so I like to wear my belts a little higher than my waist-line to make my legs look even longer than they already are!

IMG_6410 Edited LT

Now, to keep with the retro feel this outfit gives off, I went with these gorgeous burgundy platform pumps reminiscent of YSL and oh-la-la Dominique Deveaux is now in the building and ready to create her “dynasty”!

Judy’s Look

Fall is almost here, it’s inevitable, we just can’t avoid it, so if you are anything like me and love looking fly all year long, you adjust and make the best of this colourful season. My first fall lookbook outfit is inspired by menswear. Oh yay! I love a nice tall man that can kill-it in the style category, and many menswear pieces can transition well into women’s fashion. I often see women wearing nice menswear inspired suits that are tailored to their curvier frames. One item that I particularly love in menswear is a tie, which is always the first thing I look for when I see a man wearing a suit.

IMG_5830 reEdited Judy

As a child, my dad always asked me to help him adjust his tie (aww, fond family memories). I also remember having a little red leather tie as a child LOL. So, I guess it’s no real surprise that for this look I decided to go for a “comme les garcons” type of style which is a departure from the very feminine and sexy looks I’m often drawn to. I wore a printed yellow, blue, black and white cardigan, with this fabulous white shirt that I found with a built-in tie. I must say I was relieved to find this shirt because it fit the vision I had for this look perfectly. Also let me be honest, for a second, I really didn’t see myself being able to tie a tie LOL.

IMG_5994 Edited Judy

I scored this shirt while browsing through Forever 21 in the plus size section. I love that it’s not tight across my chest and not too big in the mid section. Another thing I like is that the shirt does not gape in the front across my boobs and I feel very comfortable in it. Trust me when I say the struggle is real to find a proper white shirt that fits my body.

IMG_6044 Edited Judy

To complete my look I wore my leather-look shorts to give me a cool, edgy feel. I had a vision of wearing a necklace under my tie and having it look as though it’s also built into the shirt. I must say, I love how my vision came to life. It just takes my outfit to another level. The last piece is my wonderful black patent oxford shoes which I scored at Forever 21 a few months ago, and surprisingly they are extremely comfortable and they don’t make my feet look big, which is always a plus.

Gail’s Look

Ah, the fresh cool fall breezes will soon be upon us.  I’ve always felt that come September it was time to re-jig my clothing wardrobe – particularly my work clothes so as to incorporate new items so I can refresh my look.  For me the month of September will always feel like back to school even though I’ve been out of school for some time.  I fondly remember that my sister and I made our Mother a little nuts when we INSISTED that we had to have a fresh new outfit for the first day of school!! Ah our poor long suffering Mommy! LOL

Ever since Pantone dubbed Marsala (aka wine red if you ask me LOL) as the “it colour” for 2015 I’ve been seeing it every where and I admit that I jumped on the bandwagon too…it really is a gorgeous colour.

LB1 - G - IMG_6799

These twill skinny Marsala coloured pants are fabulous.  These pants have some stretch to them so they’re very comfortable.  The cut and fit are really amazing and they hug me in all the right places and there isn’t that horrible gaping at the waist which is the usual problem I have with pants.

IMG_7089 Edited GT

I paired these pants with a printed tie-neck blouse, another hot look this season.  I’ve had this blouse for forever and I reach for it often.  It always pays to have great wardrobe staples you can reach for season after season.

That is also the case for this pink duster.  Again, I’ve had it forever and have featured it in another post seen here on the blog.

Leslie’s Look

Powdered, primped and pressed, I was eagerly poised and prepped to pounce on the chance to share the Fab Four Fashion vision of fashion for all with the awesome folks of Cityline! This week’s edition was focussed on pants and I knew I had just the pants to put the “p” in perfection!

l IMG_4820

The perfect printed pants with pizzazz is what I like to call these leopard print gems!  If you’ve been following the blog for a while now, you know I simply LOVE prins! If you’re visiting the blog for the first time, let me tell you, I’m obsessed with a gorgeous print! Having a slim silhouette, I am always trying to highlight the curves that I have, and prints go a long way toward helping me accentuate my assets. These printed pants give me more volume on my bottom half which also helps me to balance out  my broader shoulders. Plus with prints being a hot commodity this season, they are a good investment and help to diversify my wardrobe’s holdings!LOL

l IMG_4485

Leaving the pants to take centre stage, I paired this look with this long sleeveless waistcoat in a gorgeous mustard colour and a simple white tank and accessories. What I love most about this look is that it can easily make the transition to fall by swapping out the heeled sandals for some pumps or booties and the tank top for a warm sweater. When you’re working on a budget, it’s always ideal when you have the versatility of wearing your pieces in multiple ways!

l IMG_5025

This look combines a bit of an eclectic feel with a touch of fun and a pinch of pizzazz and I am beyond excited that I could share it with Cityline and all of you! So, if I can be so bold as to borrow from the great Humphrey Bogart:  “Cityline, I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” No?! (Wink-wink)

Nancy’s Look

*stands up* Hello. My name is Nancy, and I’m a 36″ inseam. Now, to all the ladies that have this blessing (we are NOT calling it a problem), how hard is it to find the perfect pair of pants?!! While cropped pants are great for us (that trend was probably invented by a fellow tallista who said: “forget finding long pants!!”), sometimes, we just want pants that pass our ankles, yes?
n IMG_5368

The overall fashion offerings for us tall glasses of champagne have greatly improved, but most of them are still online. So you can imagine how thrilled I am when I score pants at an actual brick and mortar store! Sometimes, they are not quite long enough: that’s when developing sewing skills (or knowing a good tailor) becomes essential as we depend on the extra inches that are sometimes hidden in the hemline.

n IMG_5716Naturally, I love these pants because of the length, but I also love the details it offers like the overlapped waist and the belt that cinches said waist. These pants are from Zara where I must say that I am often pleasantly surprised; this store has now become one of my first stops when shopping for pants. Now, if only they could help us out when it comes to sleeve length!

n IMG_5096

I paired my pants with this awesome striped bardot bodysuit. What’s great about this bodysuit is that it was truly designed for tall women. Therefore, the torso is long enough, allowing the panty part to sit where it’s supposed to and not ride uncomfortably high in the nether regions if you catch my drift. LOL. I accessorized my look with this cool geometric necklace and simple yet fun earrings. The punctuation of this look came in the form of these uber comfortable pink patent-leather pumps for a pop of color. Add a bright lip and I was ready for the bright lights. Stardom, here I come! LOL

Gail’s look

50 Shades of Blue that was my jump off for my Cityline debut outfit.  Blue in all its shades and tones is one of my favourite colours so of course that had to be incorporated in my look.

g IMG_4344

Now I, along with the ladies of Fab Four Fashion and women across the globe, struggle with finding great fitting pants, slacks, trousers or whatever you wish to call them.  Moreover, if you’re plus size and short on the height spectrum, like me, then the search is even more frustrating but don’t fret my pet, I’ve got you covered.

g IMG_4398

Thankfully there are retailers that offer plus petite pants lines.  Eloquii the plus size online retailer I’ve raved about offers the “Kady fit” pant that I’m wearing in short, regular and tall.  Another alternative is to look out for cropped or ankle length pants.  They come in lengths that are already tailored made for you…saving you cash on alterations.

g IMG_4052

So, I paired my perfectly fitting navy blue pants with this dolman sleeve pastel blue shirt.  The neat thing about this shirt is that the front part is made of a viscose blend lending a raw silk like look while the back portion is made of a cotton blend for maximum comfort and breathability on hot summer days.

Judy’s Look

When Cityline reached out to Fab Four Fashion about doing a fashion segment on pants, I was so excited! Honestly, I jumped out of my chair at work and went to hug Gail LOL. Soon after I came back to reality and realized that finding the perfect pants that fit my curvy frame was not going to be an easy task. I’ve seen it all with pants and been on countless searches for the right pair.

j IMG_3763

For my body type the 2 main concerns when finding a great fitting pant are:

1- A pair of pants that fit the largest part of my body which are my hippie hips.

2- A pair of pants that don’t have the awful gaping at the back.

Let’s face it pants are an essential piece that every woman needs in their wardrobe. To avoid the problem area (hips and waist) when choosing pants I tend to go for pants that have partial elastic in the waistband.

j IMG_3839

This time around the search finally paid off.  Yay!  I found this great pair of ¾ purple peg trousers from ASOS and the best part is that I got them on sale for 30$!  I just love scoring big!  When these pants arrived, I ran to the bathroom at my work place to try them. I was so anxious to see if my areas of concern were under control.  I couldn’t have been happier when I tried my pants and they fit me perfectly.  There was no gaping at the back and they fit perfectly at the hips.

These pants are a great addition to my fall wardrobe, they are so versatile I can wear them to work with a nice shirt, I can dress them down with a cute pair of oxford shoes and a sweater. Nevertheless I feel that these hot purple pants are perfect for Fab Four Fashion’s TV debut!

j IMG_3942

To complete my TV debut look, since I love colour and I believe colours should be worn all year long, I paired my purple trousers with my ¾ sleeve hot pink top from Zara.  The finishing touches were a pair of blush coloured pumps and a nice necklace to elevate this daytime look to the next level. Lights, Camera, Action- Judy is ready for her close up!

Culottes Plus Edition

It’s Friday so its another edition of Fab Four Faves.  Gail is back at us with her current favourites!

Culottes Plus Edition

Nancy featured culottes for the tall girl in the very first edition of Fab Four Faves so, I thought I’d follow up with a reboot of the culottes look for the curvy plus size bombshell!

Culottes are all the rage this season and I just had to feature them in this post.  I paired this pair with a black and white off the shoulder top.  Have I mentioned how much I love black and white combos!

I added these high heeled sandals with a fun pattern to play against the black and white stripe top.  For a pop a colour I added this gorgeous red leather purse.  The icing on the cake to this look was the featured necklace and the pearl earrings.

1. Necklace: Clemmie Watshon emu feather bib necklace

2. Top: Simply Be

3. Culottes: Yours Clothing

4. Sandal: French Connection

How do you feel about the culottes trend?  Are you willing to give it a try?  Holla back and let us know.

White Plus Size Jeans: Day and Night

White Jeans Collage

White jeans, that dreaded item of clothing that full figured women are supposed to stay away from.  I even bought into that notion.  Well, I say nuts to that!  If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, fashion is supposed to be fun and so taking some risks isn’t going to affect the space time continuum.  So, watch as I remix my white skinny jeans for day time play and night slay.

Day Time Chic

For my day time look I wanted to play with different proportions.  I paired my white skinny jeans with a more “boxy” top in fire engine red.

These jeans have a great deal of stretch which makes them incredibly comfortable and the boxy top ends at just the right spot to offer a little coverage to the tummy area.

I finished the look with a hot pink purse, Tiffany necklace, silver wedges and my trusty aviator sunglasses.

Night Time Sizzle

For my night time look, I took it up a notch.  I swapped out my red top for a lace one.  Lace happens to be one of the big summer trends this year.  As I said before, fashion risks are a-okay and rules are meant to be broken.  Gone are the days of plus size women hiding in baggy clothes.

I exchanged my silver wedges for royal blue stilettos for a pop of colour.  Last but not least I added dangly earrings and a black & silver box clutch.

If you’re a little hesistant in only wearing a bra underneath the lace top you could add a body suit instead for a little more coverage.

Skirting The Issue

Fab 4 Fashion

Pencils, midis, minis and others in between, we love a cool skirt and all the many ways they can be styled.  They can go from boardroom chic to a relaxed weekend look or to a night out on the town.  Watch as the ladies of Fab Four Fashion show you how they get creative with skirts.

Nancy’s Look

Fab 4 Fashion

The temperature is finally creeping up and this only means one thing: We can start showing more skin! This is definitely cause for celebration. It’s time to pull out all our sexy skirts!! Ok, ok, I know that skirts can be worn year round, but there’s something about having your bare legs exposed that is simply awesome!

Fab 4 Fashion

I like all skirts but I love a good pencil skirt. This Hugo Boss skirt is definitely one of my favourites and it makes me feel like a boss (too easy??? lol). I bought this stunner during a trip to Chicago and I was over the moon! I must admit that I loved this skirt so much that I bought it despite the fact that it was too big. That’s when a good tailor comes in handy. I even got to adjust the shape of the skirt to my liking: the bottom was somewhat flared and I got my tailor to turn the skirt into a pencil skirt.

Fab 4 Fashion

When paired with a crisp white shirt, this skirt is perfect for the boardroom. Swap the white shirt out for a tank top, add some bling and you’re ready for drinks with the girls. The length and the fit of the skirt make it office appropriate while the asymmetric leather trim gives it a nice edge making it equally lounge ready.

Gail’s Look

Fashion is supposed to be fun and in this outfit that feeling shows.  I love the idea of mixing prints that at first glance look as though they don’t go together, but in fact do.

Although my off-the-shoulder top is a black & white stripe and the skirt is a multicolour print they do have colours in common those being the black & white. The top acts as the perfect backdrop so that my skirt of many colours can really sing!

This skirt definitely hugs my curves beautifully.  This summer, and going forward, I’ve decided  to bust through my comfort zone and try clothes that I wouldn’t typically wear, and I encourage you all to do the same!

I read somewhere that life begins outside of our comfort zones so why not take the plunge.  I completed my look with fuschia pumps and gold jewelry.

Judy’s Look

The season for wearing skirts without stockings is finally here YAY!  During the Christmas holiday season my Mommy gave me a few of her vintage items. To those who know me, they know that I love remixing vintage items. So after trying a few of my mother‘s vintage clothes, I “inherited” 2 high waist pencil linen skirts – one in yellow and the other  in purple which are perfect for summer. I took the skirts to my tailor to have them nipped in so that they would  fit me perfectly.  Ladies, having a tailor you trust work magic on your clothes can turn a ho hum item of clothing into pure perfection!

Fab 4 Fashion

For our 4 way skirts look I chose to wear the purple linen skirt.  After the adjustment that my tailor made to the skirt,  ohh chile let me tell you … I felt like a true pin-up girl. I  really like that it accentuates my tiny waist and showcases my curves perfectly. This skirt has sentimental value to me since my dear Mommy gave it to me.  I have to wear it well to represent for my Momma in these streets and I might call myself Pin up Girl Judyyyy LOL .

Fab 4 Fashion

To complete my pin up girl look I paired the skirt with a navy blue and white heart shape sleeveless bodysuit. For my accessories I wore a soft pearly flower necklace and some cream and black sandals.

Leslie’s Look

Summer breezes + summer heat x summer sun = loose, comfortable skirts.  Long or short, flared or fitted they are the ideal garment to help combat the heat of summer temperatures so I couldn’t wait to jump into this look!

As you can no doubt see from this pleated skirt and matching crop top number, my obsession with prints continues! This beautiful tribal print coordinate set caught my eye at one of my favourite spots, Zara.  I knew I couldn’t rest until I brought it home to meet the rest of the family (my clothes are my children!).

Now, I LOVE this outfit and will definitely be wearing it several times to several places over the course of the summer, however, let me tell you all a little secret…the 2 things I would change about this look the next time I rock it:

  1. I would shorten the straps: For us ladies who spent a little too much time perusing the wings, halos, and harps when God was giving out fuller bust lines, if you just shorten the strap a bit, it will enhance the fit. I was just so eager to rock this look, I did not want to wait to have it tailored, but it shall be done (tailoring is king)!
  2. I want the skirt to be a tad bit fuller. I wanted to put crinoline underneath this Zara tribal skirt to give it more volume so the next time I rock it, this is how you will see it! Those of us with a slim silhouette can often afford to add more volume!

The above notwithstanding, I still LOVE this look. With heels, with flats, bare foot on the beach with the water gently lapping at my ankles, it all works and makes me feel like Ms Diana Ross in “Mahogany”.

Get Your Sexy On

Feature Image Size Sexy

Get Your Sexy On or Size Sexy were the two catch phrases at the fashion show the ladies of Fab Four Fashion attended last Sunday.  The event featured beautiful fashion looks designed by Annika Reid, talented singers Trish and Kim Davis and thought provoking spoken poetry by Dwayne Morgan.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Karen Ward of Curvy Canadian and owner of the fabulous plus size boutique Your Big Sister’s Closet.

We also hob knobbed with Thera Warren of Cloud 14+.  Thera slayed in her gorgeous asymmetrical top and body hugging leggings.  Oh that those feathered sandals…just beyond FAB!

The woman of the hour, Annika Reid, took some time out to chat with us and of course strike a pose for a few pics!

We were super excited to attend the Size Sexy Get Your Sexy on fashion event.  The fashions were beautiful and sassy and we were thrilled to show up and support Annika Reid, designer of Minimaximidi.

Judy’s look

When my girls told me about going to the Size Sexy Get Your Sexy On, to support Annika Reid‘s latest collection I knew I had to bring it in style.  I dressed as if I was about to rip the Size Sexy runway myself! LOL. My outfit for the event was a colorful patterned bodycon dress with some beige and black strappy sandals. To top up my look of course I wore a bright pink lipstick.

Gail’s look

I went for a casual yet sexy look.  I wore a plus size black & white off the shoulder bardot top and paired it with my red midi plus size skirt.  I just adore this skirt as it has pockets and the skirt itself has flirty sexy feeling.  Also this skirt, from Eshakti, can be customized so tall ladies out there you can get this skirt too!

Leslie’s Look

This event was awesome as it had the perfect trifecta: fashion, friends and fun. My outfit game for this evening was sexy-casual.

I decided to throw on a simple gray tank top, white skirt with a front slit and my pastel green pumps to add some colour! Three easy, breezy, beautiful pieces that can be reworked with so many other wardrobe elements to create new looks!
