A Vested Interest in Curves

Melissa McCarthy is delighting us again with her fall collection for Penningtons!

What caught my eye as I was perusing the Penningtons site were these oh so fresh to death skinny jeans.  The fit is spot on and they’re super comfortable.  I love the cool zipper details found on the ankles of the jeans as well.

Next came this printed top. I really like the print and look forward to pairing it with other printed pieces in my wardrobe.  Because I’m on the short side of the height spectrum I elected to tuck in the shirt in at the front and left the shirt tail out at the back.

Now we’ve got to talk about this vest.  I absolutely adore it!  It provides the perfect extra layer of warmth on a crisp fall day.  The vest is quite light weight so do fret my pet.

To complete my look I added bold silver earrings and black wedge boots.  Et voila, I’m ready to step out in style!

Ode to Dorothy Perkins Plus Size Edition Revised

Yay its Friday! Welcome to our latest edition of Fab Four Fave brought to you by the beautiful and always stylish Judy!

If you haven’t heard it yet, I’m please to be the first to inform you that on October 8, 2015Dorothy Perkins launched their first plus size line! I’ve always been a fan of their clothing, but am overjoyed that they’ve extended their brand into plus sizes!!! Yay. They clearly understand that fashion should be for every body type. This being said, in honour of the release of this new collection, for this instalment of Fab Four Fave, I’ve decided to do a special flat-lay to showcase some of my favourite pieces from their new plus size collection.

Ode to Dorothy Perkins Plus Size Edition Revised

I decided to choose this beautiful sleeveless vest from Dorothy Perkins with the intent of rocking it as a dress, and paired it with a fur bolero since fall can be brutally breezy in the 6six. To this I then added a nice pair of stone earrings that I found on the Dorothy Perkins site, a super cute multi-coloured clutch, some sexy heels, and last but certainly not least, a vibrant pink color lipstick to seal the deal. And voila, I’m good to go. This is a sexy look for a swanky fall cocktail party.

So don’t forget to check out Dorothy Perkins new plus size collection, you will be surprised how affordable the line is and pleased with some of the great pieces they have to offer.

 Until next time smootches!!!

Wearing the Pants

Pants, slacks, trousers, they go by many names and are the bane of the existence for many ladies out there! They’re either not long enough, gap at the waist, awful fit at the hips; therefore, some ladies opt to shy away from wearing pants. We say, no more! If you like pants, then wear them! There’s a way for all body types to rock pants and the Fab Four ladies will demonstrate how they do it!

Gail’s Look

Black pants and a top – that was my clothing “uniform”.  Black pants were always readily available in my size so that’s pretty much what I stuck with.  Since starting this blog I’ve slowly been giving myself permission to branch out and try other things.

g - IMG_3409

This idea led me to these plus size olive green pants I purchased a while ago and never wore.  These pants are close fitting but have a lot of stretch so they’re very forgiving.  As the plus size petite one in this quartet, shopping for pants can be a chore don’t let that happen.  Remember a tailor is your best friend and secret weapon!

g IMG_3779

I paired the pants with this white vest that I wore for the “Off the Wall” blog post.  It’s quickly becoming one of my favourite wardrobe additions.

g IMG_3480

My neutral coloured tank top marries well with my vest and patns and was the perfect back drop for this statement necklace.

Let’s pause and have a moment of silence for this Louis Vuitton purse. I splurged a few years ago on this beauty and I’ve never regretted it! Finally I completed my look with nude coloured pumps.

For my pants look I chose to wear printed loose jogger pants and I just love how they fit my curves. I found these beautiful printed joggers by fluke at Forever 21 in the curvy section a few weeks ago. The material is light and I love the mix of colours, which just so happen to be perfect for summer.

j IMG_5210

What I love about the cut of this style of pants is that I can pair them with a cute crop top or a dress shirt, but for my pants look I chose to wear it with a simple white tank top and my mama’s yellow blazer. What more can I say, I just love buying items that can serve multiple purposes. That way I know I will get my money’s worth.

I topped-off my look with my strappy 3 inch heel sandals with silver stones. I absolutely love these super cute sandals and I can wear them all day without having to worry about my feet hurting. To accessorize my look I wore my favorite pearly Zara necklace and a classic tiffany charm bracelet.

Leslie’s Look

Summer is finally here and it’s time to jump into some fun colours and plunge into some cool trends! One trend I was eager to nose-dive into is culottes. Both Nancy and Gail have done some amazing Fab Four Fave’s on this hot little number and I figured I would be happy to be the one to bring this “Fave” to living colour.

l IMG_4126I consider these pale blue high waisted pants to be a mix between a cropped pant and culottes. They don’t have the extremely wide leg most notable about culottes, but still have enough of that wide leg look to be likened to them. I found that, on my slim frame, the wide leg culottes can sometimes be a bit overpowering, making my legs look a bit like “Puss in Boots” from Shrek! LOL That is not to say that I wouldn’t find a wide leg culotte that would fit just right, I am just counceling my slim ladies out there to ensure that you get the right fit with this trend. Don’t go too baggy or you might be drowned in fabric!

l IMG_4920

I decided to keep this look cool and simple, opting for a simple white crop top and blush coloured pumps that perfectly complimented the look. I then pulled it all together with this gorgeous blue moto style leather jacket that haunted my dreams last summer until I brought it home. It offers the perfect punch of colour. One wonderful thing about this jacket is that there was no need to lengthen the sleeves as, even though I took the smallest size, the sleeves were the perfect length for my long arms!

l IMG_4726

The final touch for this look was this funky necklace I scooped up from my friendly neighbourhood Zara adding a fun final flare to the look. Summertime here I come!

Nancy’s Look

There was a time when I would sigh deeply at the thought of shopping for pants. They were always too short. It’s still the case for the most part at a brick and mortar store but thank goodness for online shopping! I’m a 34’-36’ inseam so finding the right length pants is quite the task.

I’ve had some success (online) with J Crew, Ann Taylor and Alloy Apparel. But it’s always nice to have the option to walk in a store and just find a pair of pants that fit. I must say that I’ve often been surprised by the pants selection at Zara! And this is where I scored these cobalt ones.

These belted high waisted pants fit perfectly. The flared fit is great for the summer and these pants are easily dressed up and down. Here, I’m wearing my pants with a simple sweetheart neckline tube top.

I accessorized with a statement necklace, a bright yellow clutch and a fun bangle. And with that, I was ready to enjoy the first days of summer!

Off the Wall

It was the great MJ who told us that “tonight…gotta leave that 9 to 5 upon the shelf…and just enjoy yourself”, and that is exactly what the ladies of Fab Four Fashion and their guests did last Saturday night! Friends, both old and new, congregated en mass at a swanky restaurant in downtown Toronto to celebrate the launch of the Fab Four Fashion blog and say thank you to all those who have shown them so much love & support along the way! And to those of you who were unable to attend, a huge thank you goes out to you as well!

So what do the Fab Four like to wear when they decide to “live their life off the wall”? Check-check-check check it out!

Judy’s Look

I’ve been locked up in the house way to long due to the brutal winter we’ve had; and now, this spring season is proving to be subpar thus far. But, “I got my freakum dress on, Ladies Get your freakum dress on” cause tonight it’s the night! It’s the Fab Four Fashion Launch Party … (oh I know you love my remix of Beyoncé’s Freakum Dress On LOL )

For our party I decided to go with sexy, fitted and short (oh yeah, it’s a “freakum dress”). I scored this little number a few seasons ago from ASOS on sale, and let me tell you, it was worth every penny! Since my dress was a tad on the short side, I had my tailor let out the hem to give me a bit more length (you know a girl’s gotta keep it classy).

I paired this look with a nice black and gold belt to accentuate my curvy frame, and these gorgeous black lace up cage sandals which compliment the look flawlessly. Since I got the nails done, the toes needed to be on display! And at any rate, it’s a party right!

To further accessorize my look, I wore a gold bracelet and a funky gold ring I got from Forever 21.

For my Tall Divas of the world I didn’t forget about you! Here are the options I found for you to recreate a similar look: check out these dresses here and here. I also found some Nine West shoes that go up to size 12.

And remember, “wave your hands side to side, put it in the air, wave your hands side to side, put it in the air , clap, clap, clap like you don’t care”. That’s the Fab Four Fashion/Toronto’s Destiny’s Child version of “711” (you already know who is the Beyoncé of the group LMAO).

Leslie’s Look

What was it MJ said; don’t stop till you get enough? Well, I just can’t get enough of the gorgeous clothing designed by Clover Canyon! Their use of colour and print is fresh and exciting; their prints, bold and beautiful, and best of all, they believe in sales! Can I get an “AMEN”!

Interestingly enough, on their web site, you can set up price alerts so that you’re immediately advised when that certain little something that caught your eye has finally dropped in price. Can I get a “Hallelujah”!

And finally, I adore that they combine funky bold prints with classic, simple lines. This magically delicious dress, which I immediately pounced on once it went on sale, is a perfect illustration of these great attributes (i.e. exciting colour, bold print, classic lines and purchased on sale!!)  The quintessential fashion grand slam! Can I get a “PREACH”!

In view of the fact that I am slightly on the taller side of the height spectrum at about 5’9 (you tall ladies will understand my plight), I often find myself buying pieces with three quarter sleeves. This way, I don’t have to worry about the sleeve length being awkwardly short or buying the item 2 sizes up then having it tailored to fit my frame. Well, I have now purchased a few items from Clover Canyon, most of them long sleeved and I can attest to the fact that, despite my purchasing the smallest size, the sleeve length still hits where it should! Thank you clover Canyon for getting me!

I wanted this look to be all about the dress, so I paired it with my nude stilettos and a simple clutch, and bippity boppity boo, I’m ready for the ball!

Dress: ASOS //Shoes: Office // Purse: Ebay

For my curvy ladies, make it your own with this dress. And the nude shoes are available in extended sizes at Nordstrom.

Nancy’s Look

As soon as we decided that we were going to have this celebration, I knew that I would pull out a sexy LBD. I’m usually all about color but there’s something about a black dress that I simply love.

The sweetheart neckline of this particular dress provides the sexy and the length ensures the classy! The scuba material gives an awesome fit and the underwire front adjusts nicely at the bust. Since the dress is simple enough, I used it as a canvas for that glorious necklace! I won’t lie, I did a spin and a dip when I saw it! It truly takes the outfit to the next level.

I finished my look with these laser cut sandals, a gold cut out cuff and this fun box clutch. With that, I was ready to par-tay!

Dress: Topshop // Necklace: Aldo (Ladies, for some reason, the necklace is not online but it’s definitely at the store!! If you love it, run to the nearest Aldo store, quick!); similar here and here  // Cuff: Aldo (sold out); similar here and here // Shoes: Nine West (Since the larger sizes are gone, check these out!)// Clutch: Ebay

My plus size bombshells can also rock their fierce LBDs with these options here and here.

Gail’s Look

Greetings massive!  I definitely feel like I’m living off the wall  and outside my comfort zone in this outfit.

Once again, I went back to black and white by pairing my grid patterned skirt first seen here with a white vest and body suit.

Ladies, I know that some of us have some mixed feelings about showcasing our arms as the temperatures rise so if you choose, you could swap out the sleeveless vest for a white jacket.  Maybe push up the sleeves to “juh-ju” the look a little bit.

I completed my look with an oversized silver clutch and fun polka dot pumps.

Oh and I need to wax poetic about my earrings.  This ear cuff is the earring of my WHOLE LIFE!  I found it at H&M and snatched it up so quick I would have made Usain Bolt do a double take…man, I probably broke an Olympic record or two! LOL
