Ever put an outfit together and just feel like something is missing? That’s because something probably is! In a bygone era a gentile woman would not even think of leaving her home without first donning her bonnet; or spend hours at the milliners trying to find the perfect artfully sculpted headpiece to compliment her gown.  If you’re looking for THE exquisite hat or fascinator to cause a stir at your next event, one need look no further than David Dunkley!

Having studied with formal royal milliner to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, David’s creations have also graced the head of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall.

David is an award winning designer and is also the official milliner of the Queen’s Plate.  As you can imagine, the ladies of Fab Four Fashion are beyond excited to have had the chance to wear fascinators from David’s private collection when we walked the red carpet at the Nordstrom Opening Gala.  Join us as we chat fascinating fascinators and outstanding outfits!

Wearing haute couture has always been a dream of mine, but when you actually get to wear haute couture on top of your head, it’s even better. Who said fascinators can’t be a strong statement piece, well let me tell you about Canadian hat designer David Dunkley.

dsc_4068

I had the extreme privilege of wearing one of the David Dunkley’s fascinators which was carefully crafted, and hand made by the visionary himself. My fascinator consists of black and white stripes, made out of “peau de soie” which is worn in the middle of the head, and at the back a few artfully placed bright pink ostrich feathers.

And what could be better than to wear such a striking piece to the official red carpet grand opening of the brand new Nordstrom store at the Toronto Eaton Centre. What a show stopper; this fascinator commends attention and yes, it is a veritable piece of art.

dsc_4023

Choosing an outfit to aptly compliment this skillfully designed fascinator was easy, as I had a vision of a black strapless bustier, with a long A-line satin white skirt with black polka dots. The mix of the stripes on the fascinator, and the polka-dot skirt blended so beautifully. To complete my look I wore a pair of long silver earrings and black pumps.

I’m ready to take the fashion world by storm.

Do you like to be a show stopper? Do you enjoy seeing eyes widen as they land on you? If you answered yes, then read on – David Dunkley is for you.

This stunning piece of millinery is not for the faint of heart or those who like being incognito. The creator of this piece loved it so much that he retired this topper to his private collection. Can you blame him? It’s simply stunning. The skillfully crafted flowers are accentuated by black feathers to create this newspaper printed chef-d’oeuvre. I tried on many amazing pieces but my heart literally skipped a beat when the master milliner pulled the ONE from a secret back room.

dsc_3843

This gorgeous hat in classic black and white goes with pretty much anything. I chose to carry this color pallet to the rest of my outfit. The gorgeous dress that I am rocking is made of scuba material and hugs my figure right where I want it. The cut out adds just the right dose of sexiness. If you have a wedding, birthday or just want to exercise your right to be hot, you can RENT this beauty for the weekend. No need to commit and they will dry clean it for you!

Always needing a pop of color, I had to pull out my red lipstick.

Entering David Dunkley’s boutique is like stepping into a fanciful jewelry box where all the hats and fascinators on display shine bright like Harry Winston diamonds.  I have a particular obsession with hats so you can imagine that I felt as though I died and went to fascinator heaven.  I wanted to wear a fascinator that was utterly unique and feathers were an absolute requirement.  David of course, did not disappoint.

gt-reedited-dsc_3451

This fascinator not only had feathers but ombre feathers at that which culminated in a collection of silk flowers which frame my face beautifully.

dsc_3393

With a fanciful fascinator like this I went for a rather sedate outfit.  I opted for a simple black jumpsuit from my favourite online retailer, Eloquii along with silver pumps.

dsc_3328

I added a simple white jacket thrown over my shoulder “vogue editor” style.

ROYAL!! That is how I feel in this jawdroppingly stunning piece of millenary perfection created by the one and only David Dunkley, and this triple take” beauty of a dress from Fitzroy Boutique making me feel like a modern day Cinderella (post bippitty-boppitty-boo of course)!

While it is not often one finds me in a predominantly black outfit, when said outfit looks like this, colour be dammed!

dsc_3546

It’s all in the details. Mr. Dunkley (are we even sure  the Queen has not Knighted him yet because really, his hats are veritable pieces of artistry), has created the perfect blend of elegance, sophistication and a certain air of mystery in this striking black and silver head piece.  The addition of fine crystals to the floating veil and the delicate plumes add that extra touch of glamour that I love so much. In this outfit I feel like a modern day film noire femme fetale leaving a grimacing Bogey or Cary Grant wishing they never met me, yet thanking their lucky stars that they did! 😉

dsc_3603

Now, what would a beautiful piece of millenary confection be without the perfect accompaniment? We love to find great Canadian boutiques, and Fitzroy Boutique is a gem! Not only do they have fantastic pieces that are perfect for any occasion, they also……

wait for it….

wait for it….

OFFER RENTALS!!!

dsc_3501

Ever see a dress you just love, then look at the price tag and stop breathing in case your breath accidently rustles the material to hard causing a bead to come lose or a feather to stray from its skillfully crafted perch? I know I have. Then I go into grinning idiot mode as I try to find the quickest path with the least obstacles to get me the hell outta that store!LOL Well, ladies why purchase that $900 dress if you know you will never have a chance to wear it again. For $50 – $90 you can rent a gorgeous designer dress for a 4 day period, wear it, dance in it, be the envy of everyone in it, then return it to Fitzroy and NOT EVEN HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DRY CLEANING IT! They take care of the dry cleaning for you!

This ostrich feather dress I’m rocking, designed and handmade in the 6ix by Canadian designer Marika Brose retails for $845! But with Fitzroy, you get the look for less with a 4 day rental for $75!

dsc_3607

I kept the rest of my look simple to leave centre stage so to my elegant fascinator and stylish dress. I wore simple crystal earrings and necklace and wore my pewter coloured cage sandals and cuff bracelet to add a little edginess.

And with that, this Cinderella was ready to slip that shoe on her prince’s foot (size 13:-) What? 13’s my lucky number and I did say I was a modern-day Cinderella!(wink-wink)

GRP IMG_0776

The holiday party season just keeps on going and going! As much as Christmas has a special place in all of our hearts, New Year’s Eve is really the punctuation mark to the festive season. Like the big finale at the end of a great show! The cherry on top of that delicious ice cream Sunday or that final scene of the season finale of Scandal!lol NYE is when you want to let it all hang out and start the new year anew! You also may want to dance the night away, and should you elect to do so, you gotta do it in STYLE! Check out some looks that your Fab Four Fashion girls cooked up for you to ensure you make a splash for that big holiday finish!

Leslie’s Look

LT IMG_9967

The name of my New Year’s Eve game was sparkle and shine! I wanted to turn up the heat with a look that would bring a little bling to the new year!

LT IMG_0110

Ladies, the one thing we all need to know about our bodies, is the part we like most (i.e. your best feature). Ask yourself, what do you feel comfortable showing off, or accentuating. Is it your tiny waist line, your voluptuous silhouette, that great bust line or those sculpted arms or back? Once you’ve narrowed that down, it’s a lot easier to select pieces to draw the focus to the area of your choice, rather than to the areas you’d prefer not to highlight.

LT IMG_1049

For my look, I wanted to draw the focus to my long legs, so I went for this mini sequins bodycon dress. You can’t miss the sparkle, but you can’t miss the gams either! I also love my back and this is another area where I like to show a little skin. So I went for this backless number that does the job oh so well!

LT IMG_0046

So ladies, your resolution for 2016 should be to figure out what your best feature is, if you don’t know already, and find pieces that make you shine bright like a diamond (not necessarily literally the way I’ve done)LOL!

Happy New Year everybody!!!!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot  and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintances be forgot, and days of o’lang syne!  Yes, another New Year’s Eve is upon us and I, for one, am excited!

GT IMG_0416

To welcome 2016 in style, I wanted my look to be fun, flirty and feminine with a whole lotta glam!  So, I went with a silver flecked off the should body con dress.

For those of you who are not afraid to wear  form fitting clothing then this dress is for you.  It hugs my curves beautifully giving me the va va voom I was looking for.  I’m wearing this dress in a size 18/20 and it does have some stretch to it.  I’m also happy to report that this dress goes all the way up to 26/28!

With a dress as body conscious as this, shape wear is definitely a must for me. This shape wear from Spanx does the job of smoothing everything out wonderfully.

GT IMG_0488

To complete my look, I added a black ribbon as my necklace, fun rhinestone studded earrings and of course my faux fur coat.  You all know how much I LOVE me some faux fur!

And now ladies and gents, I’m off to dance the night away with the ladies of Fab Four!!

New Years Eve is the time to celebrate with your friends and family and count the many blessings in your life. It is also the time to glam up and unleash your fierceness.

This year my NYE look is a “DYI” glam; allow me to break it down for you. I always wanted to wear a low cut dress, but since I was blessed with big boobs, low cut is not always a great option and in order to achieve this look I would have to invest in a whole lot of fashion tape LOL.  I have been eyeing this beautiful low cut forest green dress from Forever 21 for a while now, and it peaked my interest because of the low cut (of course) and my desire to try something new in the form of this shade of forest green. When I slipped it on I immediately fell in love, and while striking a pose in the fitting room, my vision of finding the perfect bralette to wear underneath came to life. I was determine to make this vision a reality.

JS IMG_9701

The dress fit great, but I wasn’t crazy about the below the knee length. I was also not a big fan of the split on each side of the  bottom part of the dress, however I was not worried because I knew that I would take it to my seamstress and have her fix it the way I wanted.  I was even happier to get the dress for under $50.

JS IMG_9646

My next mission was to find the bralette to wear underneath. I perused through a couple of stores with no luck, but in the end my favorite online retailer came to the rescue YAY! “VIVA ASOS”!  I went to the sale’s section and there it was, just waiting for me, this gorgeous black sequins bralette! I did my happy dance when it turned out to be on sale for the sweet price of $22.  My goal was to get a wicked outfit for less than $100 and I did. The last piece, I must admit, I splurged on though. This faux fur coat that I got from Eloquii is perfect to ring in the new year in style. Yeah, I could have done without it but, I just couldn’t resist this ¾ sleeve faux fur jewel of a coat, and I know I will most certainly use it again. I must say I am thoroughly pleased with the final result of the complete look, and so relieved that my vision came to life in such fine form. With all the alterations, my dress fit me perfectly, it’s very sexy but also very chic and the black sequins bralette raises the glam factor to a 10/10.

With my NYE look completed I’m ready to take the New Year by storm and to continue to explore my fashion sense.

Nancy’s Look

My look consisted of gold, glam and grace! Based on my height, I often describe myself as statuesque (I borrowed the term from a fellow tall lady who decided to change her perspective from seeing herself as “lanky” to “statuesque”… It’s all in the way you perceive yourself right?) So for my NYE’s look, I was inspired by an actual statue: the Oscar statuette! Ok… Not really. LOL But with this dress and all the gold that I was sporting, we playfully referred to me as the Oscar the entire day of the shoot.

ND IMG_0171

This column dress is made specifically with the tall woman in mind. I practically did a backflip as soon as I laid eyes on it! As stated in our segment, I was rocking 4″ heels, and my dress still touched the ground! How often does that happen? And the color, oh the color! It’s so rich and compliments the hue of my skin oh so well. It had me feeling like I was covered in liquid gold. The dress has a lot of stretch to it, so don’t be afraid of going down one size: I went with my usual size and ended up taking it to the tailor for adjustment  and now it fits perfectly!

ND IMG_0731

Then there is the décolletage, oh the décolletage! The dress boasts a deep V in the front and in the back. So ladies, you have to get creative in securing the “girls” and to avoid a wardrobe malfunction! I went with a deep U-plunge bra which is seamless, so it won’t cause any unwanted bulges. Alternatively, using some good ol’ tape will do the trick.

ND IMG_1121

I finished my  look with all the gold baubles I could put my hands on: body chain to add interest in the areas where my skin was exposed. Gold dangly earrings because my chains were dainty and discrete. Gold rings because they were just oh so cool. And gold bangles because, well, they’re just my staple! Honorary mention to the shoes that peeked ever so slightly! lol.

So now, in addition to looking like one, I’m ready to sip on a tall glass of champagne!
