Dog Days of Summer

Grp Edited IMG_9589

Well ladies and gents, we are almost at the end of our fabulous summer. This year we were blessed with an extremely warm summer season and had days where the thermostat reached record highs. Since all good things must come to an end, Fab Four Fashion has decided to give you at least one more post (possibly two) relating to the summer and give you great options of what to wear until Labor Day weekend.

End of August. Can you believe it?! Say it ain’t so!! Thankfully, the sun is still shining (for the most part!) and the weather is still sweet. As much as I love fall fashion, I want to play in my summer wardrobe just a little while longer.

ND Edited IMG_0105

This outfit is precisely how you’ll catch me running through the streets on an easy breezy day and is just one example of how you can transition your summer outfits for the coming season.

I got this dress about a decade ago (!!!) while on a wonderful trip to Barcelona with my bff (hey Myrsha!). The print is what first caught my eye. I love the colors and plaid is just a timeless classic.

ND Edited IMG_9839 nd

To make the color further pop, I paired my maxi dress with this perfect yellow jacket. This jacket is such an eye catcher and a statement on it’s own. It makes even the most simple outfits go from plain to fab.

Now excuse me as I go bake under the sun before it goes away for another 6 months…

Can you believe it? Summer is almost over and I for one feel the need to make sure I wear all my summer clothes while the temperature’s still hot. It’s also a great idea to start looking at what you have in your personal “summer clothing collection” that can easily make the leap into fall.

LT Edited IMG_0251

This jumpsuit I scored earlier in the summer and just never had an opportunity to rock it on the blog. I fell in love with the print and the style, but I felt no rush to jump into this little number as I knew I could easily wear it as the days got a little cooler.

This piece is perfect for a day party or just hanging with friends. For the tall ladies out there, the length is a 32-inch inseam so that one is a little tricky. I let out the hem so I could rock it with a tiny heel (I just love my heels!!), but even then, the heel has to be a tiny one.

LT Edited IMG_0370

To polish off my look, I went with all gold accessories; as the buttons on the jumpsuit are gold, it felt apropos.  Funky gold earrings, gold cuffs and gold flat sandals rounded out the look.

This fall, you will catch me in this outfit with a moto jacket and cute kitten heels (in a nice vibrant colour!). I say hallelujah to pieces that can span 2 or more seasons!

Yes, another summer is slowly but surely bidding us farewell.  I wanted to wear an outfit that was carefree yet sexy all at the same time.

GT Edited IMG_9744 cropped

These dark skinny jeans from Forever 21 Plus are simply perfect!  They have some stretch making them very comfy and they hug my hips and derriere perfectly!

GT Edited IMG_1421

GT Edited IMG_1122

I added this yellow knit cropped tank top because…why not.  I love the colour against my skin and surprisingly I found this in the regular size section of Forever 21.  Ladies, don’t be afraid to try on some items that aren’t in the plus section because you never know if you’ll score a winner.  If it doesn’t fit, no big deal, just move on to the next item in the dressing room.

GT Edited IMG_9754 cropped

Last but not least came these leopard print heeled Vince Camuto sandals!  If you follow us on snapchat (FabFourFashion) you would have seen that I scored these bad boys at the Off Saks Fifth Avenue store at Halton Hills (essentially our Ontario equivalent to Woodbury Common in New York state).  These beauties are very comfy and I got them for only $40!!!!

Since this summer was very good to me (i.e. nice weather), I had the opportunity to wear my most colorful pieces of clothing. This year I told myself that I wanted to find the right pair of culottes. Yes, finding the right pair of culottes is a struggle, because I need something that doesn’t gather-up between my thick thighs.

JS Edited IMG_0739

Well, the search is over as I found the cutest pair of culottes online from Lane Bryant (YAY!). I was a bit hesitant as I’ve never ordered anything from them before, as well as, in the past, my not being able to find the right pair of culottes to fit my body properly. I’m excited to say that these pleated culottes fit me perfectly and there’s no gathering of material in the crotch area.

JS Edited IMG_0671

What I love about these pleated culottes is that they look like a skirt. The material is very light and flowy, and as a lover of prints and color, I couldn’t be happier with the polka dot print on them.

I kept my casual summer look very simple, as it is an outfit that I would wear to run errands, business casual for work, or brunching in the city. I paired my pleated culottes with a simple white tank top, and wore my light blue jean jacket, which has become a staple in my summer wardrobe. To finish off my look I wore my ultra-high but oh so comfortable beige sandals, put on my white sunglasses and I’m ready to casually cruise the streets of TO.

Fall Fashion Week

GRP IMG_5332

Here we go again, it’s that time of year, fall fashion week. That wonderful time when we get to dress up and express ourselves through fashion. It’s also the season when designers show us the greatness we can look forward to for spring 2016. Last year, the ladies of Fab Four Fashion were the rookies at fashion week; but this year, the quartet have come back with a vengeance to show the fashion world what they are working with.

You be the judge. From fabulous backless jumpers and capes, to timeless leather jackets and prints there is so much for your eyes to see!

One thing’s for sure, Fab Four Fashion is ready to “Rip the Runway“!

Leslie’s Look

Toronto Fashion Week! Christmas in October for the fashion obsessed who flock to see the gorgeous clothing presented on catwalks with care in the hopes of catching a glimpse of what will be hot in the New Year! The flashes of cameras are like twinkling lights on trees and parties abound with the elite and good cheer!

LT IMG_6117

I guess it’s needless to say that I’m quite excited about the coming week and all the delights there will be to enjoy. But before we could head off to the shows we first had to make sure to pull out our fashion week finery and indulge in this time when you can truly dress to show off your inner diva! And that is exactly what I did!

LT IMG_5870

I wanted to go with a monochromatic palette for my look. A blending of vintage, classics and glam! The hallmark of my look was this gorgeous vintage leather and suede fur collared coat that I “borrowed” from my mom’s closet! Yes, you read correctly, my MOM’s closet. This coat is older than I am but still perfectly in line with  current fashion trends!

LT IMG_6017

With this I decided to rock this high-low full satin skirt that I just love because it adds a level of glam due in large part to the material (and the tutu I’m wearing underneath for added fullness) and lens to the illusion of my having a curvier silhouette.

I wanted to dress down the rest of the look so I paired this satin skirt with a simple crew neck long sleeved sweater and black and blue pumps. The accessories were extremely simple; I only wore these silver dangly earrings and that’s it. I felt that the coat and skirt said it all. No need for anything else!

LT IMG_5919

This look combines a bit of that old world Hollywood glam in the fur collared coat and satin skirt with the simplicity of a simple sweater and a monochrome colour pallet. Now, I’m ready to see all the lights, drink in the electric atmosphere and carol along to the cheers of the crowds in only the way one can at this special time of year!

Gail’s Look

Ah fashion week, one of the more glamourous times of the year when fashion’s glitterati  descend on David Pecault Square to peek into the fashion future to see what we will all be wearing come spring.

GT IMG_5519

I just love fashion week!  Of course attending the shows is always exciting, but for me the best part is the people watching!  Fashion week and fashion in general is so fun because one gets the opportunity to step out of one’s safe little box and really express oneself unabashedly!

GT IMG_5527 x 2

With that in mind my fashion outfit centered on this white cape jacket.  This jacket, quite frankly, is the jacket of my whole life!  When I laid eyes on it on the Charlotte Russe website I just knew I had to have it.

GT IMG_5609 x 2

The second piece of my fashion week outfit puzzle was this graphic print skirt.  Graphic prints, especially in black and white, figured heavily in Valentino’s Fall 2015 Ready to Wear collection (see here) so I definitely wanted to incorporate that into my look because as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a sucker for black & white combinations.

GT IMG_5574

The other crucial piece to my fashion puzzle are these over the knee boots.  Finding boots that can accommodate my “shapely” calves used to be such a struggle but no more!  I spotted these bad boys on the Torrid website and snapped them up real quick.  I especially love the studs found on the heels.

To round out my look I added a little frosting around my neck and I’m all set to take in the spectacle that is Toronto Fashion Week!

Judy’s Look

I love going to fashion week. Last year was my first time attending the shows and I was impressed with the amount of flare, style and daring fashion on display. I met several lovely “fashionisters” and “fashionistas” as well, which was a great added bonus to viewing the fantastic pieces on the main stage! When I went last March, my look had more of a classy and simple feel. This year, I had to be true to myself and give you a bit more than simple! LOL

JS IMG_5383

I went for a look that could transition well from a fashion show to a sexy fashion party. I wore this beautiful printed skirt with a cool black pleated border on one side adding an extra edge to the skirt. You probably already know by now that I have a soft spot for printed pieces.

JS IMG_5408

To cap off my look I elected to wear a simple black crop top because I didn’t want to draw the attention away from the skirt. I also just love the combo of a sexy printed skirt with a crop top and heels. To me, this is an easy, classy, sexy look that works all the time and you can always mix and match these pieces with other elements in your wardrobe.

JS IMG_5450

My look wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t accessorize and glamorize with cool jewellery and a sexy clutch. I paired my outfit with my vintage black beaded clutch courtesy of my mom (thanks mama) and my black suede pumps with gold stone accents. I wore a beautiful stone necklace which elevates my overall look and of course my camel-coloured coat cause let’s be real, it’s almost winter up in here!LOL.

Nancy’s Look

It’s Fashion Week y’all! Twice a year, fashion lovers come to show up and show out and that is precisely what I was going for! While I love to see what’s on the runway, I equally enjoy seeing the street styles. Not only is there tons of inspiration, it’s always interesting to try to figure out people’s personalities based on their sartorial choices!

ND IMG_5712

Based on that, I had to make this outfit 100% me!! Numero uno, them shoes! Oh these shoes are just the cutest cutest things! Awesome color – check! Super comfortable – check! Comes with pom poms!! Come on!! The satin finish brings the right touch of class to these pointy toed flats. The good folks at ASOS are winners for that one.

ND IMG_5671

I know, I know, I sound like a broken record, but backless anything automatically gets my heart beating a little faster LOL. Add that to my favourite piece of clothing – which is a jumper AND a cape?!!??! Oh it’s a WRAP! I accessorized my jumper with very little – a dainty body chain to glam up my exposed back, some cute dangly earrings, all the gold bracelets I could lay my hands on LOL and, my fave: mommy’s clutch.

ND IMG_5745

I especially love this jumpsuit because it’s flirty and sexy and just so much fun! The movement you get from that baby is the ultimate best. My girls will attest to the amount of twirling that happened during the day… LOL. It’s Gone with the WIND fabulous. Now if I could just get Beyonce to hook me up with her wind machine, my life would officially be complete!

Fab Four Faves: Boots A Plenty – Skinny Calf Edition

boots tm

You Ask? We Answer!

One of our Fab readers asked us the following:

“I have skinny legs and as a result I struggle to find knee high boots that are tight around my calves. Wondering what brands Nancy and Leslie wear to achieve a more fitted look?”

We hear you Dre. We hear you! So, for this week’s edition of Fab Four Fave, Nancy will tackle Dre’s question.

As an avid online shopper (where the size 12 shoe possibilities are endless…almost!), I know that it can be very difficult to find hot boots that won’t make you look like Puss ‘n Boots! LOL

First thing ladies, you have to know how big (or small!) you calf is. So grab that tape measure and measure on! Once you’re armed with this info, you can start shopping!

boots heel

Stuart  Wiseman // Nine West // Steve Madden

Some of my favorite online shopping sites actually make your search much easier: sites like Nordstrom.com, Amazon.com (and Zappos.com for our American friends) allow you to search for “Narrow Calf” which typically means 15” or less.  Make sure you don’t get them too snug as you may want to wear your boots with jeans.

boots flats

Vince Camuto // Sole Society // The Wishbone Collection

And if you fall in love with a pair that is slightly too large, you can try a trick brought to you by our very own Judy, and wear leg warmers inside of you boots. For a more permanent solution, you can always find a trusty shoe repair person. If you’re in Toronto, the ladies (yes ladies!) at Sole Survivor can definitely hook you up by adjusting the calf size. We always stress the importance of a good tailor – well a good “shoe tailor” is just as important! You can even work with them and design your very own pair which will definitely be the perfect size!

Also, you can check out Ted & Muffy. This amazing UK retailer allows you to customize from your shoe size, to your calf size, in a variety of beautiful boot options.

boots tm

Ismene // Huntsman // Acantha

Our resident sexy slim aka Leslie noted that she has been successful with boots from Zara and even Joe Fresh! And from my end, Nine West is pretty consistent as well.

I hope that this helps you out a bit, and please be sure to show us the sexy boots you end up buying to match those sexy calves!

Follow Dre’s lead! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and we will do our best to answer!

Signed,

~Nancy

Night at the Museum

IMG_8110 Edited

I would like to tell you a little story. It’s all about a girl that once upon a time – yes, you read correctly, I said once upon a time, found herself travelling on the subway and looking at the world around her with a new set of eyes. This girl, let’s call her LT, like so many city dwellers, used public transit to travel to and from work, sadly lamenting her plight all the way and complaining about the delays due to signal issues, or passenger assistance problems or the length of her commute. Until one day, she happened across a beautiful station named Museum and her world was forever changed.

IMG_7709 Edited

When she emerged from the train car it magically acquired a new look with a handsome prince and her standard work uniform-like outfit was magically transformed into a super cute sweater and striped skirt combo! Oh my! And upon her feet were a pair of ruby, I mean blue shoe-booties!

IMG_8241 Edited

This proverbial land of Oz was seemingly full of lions and tigers and bears, but she was no cowardly lion!…

Whirk!!!  Stop the track! So, perhaps there were no real lions, and no handsome princes in my subway adventures, but Museum subway station is a sight to be seen and provided a great backdrop for this fun look.

This time of year is a SUPERB time to stock up on summer clothes because of all the great summer sales out there! My head is reeling from all the deals I’ve seen and believe me when I say I dove into the action head first! I’ve been watching this sweater and skirt at Zara since they first appeared in the stores and, while I liked them, I was just not ready to pay the price. A girls gotta save for a rainy day, even when trying to put her best fashion foot forward!;-) But, lucky me I was able to wait it out and score them both for an incredible deal!

IMG_8073 Edited

I love this sweater because of the beautiful colour which is quickly becoming one of my favourite, and the deep v at the back that shows off a little skin. I, like Nancy, love a top with an exposed back when I can get it! Furthermore, this sweater will transition nicely into my late summer/early fall wardrobe perfectly!

IMG_8110 Edited

This skirt was my ode to Ralph Lauren. I don’t often get down with the preppy look, though I do like it, but there was just something about this skirt that drew me in!  AND, I can wear it with a ton of stuff already in my wardrobe. This is a key factor for me along with many other women out there because we need to remix our outfits as much as possible. This way we have the ability to create new looks with the “old” pieces we already have.

IMG_8354 Edited

Now, let us discuss these shoes!!! I have to raise a glass to my big sis Gail who discovered these shoes for me! YAY G! These peep toe booties keep this outfit looking funky and the clutch adds an extra za-za-zoo that I just die for!!!

IMG_8494 Edited

All in all,  for a girl that was not always loving her time spent on public transit, I have to say that I have a new found appreciation for what one may happen across when one decides to leave the car at home and ride the TTC!
